Shooting Club Road is off of Sisterdale Road on the Northside of Boerne that runs behind the Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home, and ends on Pfeiffer.  The story of the oldest Shooting Club in Texas right after this.

In 1864, a group of German settlers formed the Boerne Schuetzen Verein. The first rifle range was on property owned by William Kuhfuss on North Main Street. The range moved to a pasture behind the Phillip Manor House on South Main.  Charter Members included Kuhfuss, Phillip, and E.A.F. Toepperwein.

Other members a generation later include Karl and Joe Dienger, Helwig Zoeller, and Adolf Luckenbach. 

A couple of changes in the 20th century, the Boerne Schuetzen Verein moved again in 1913 to the present-day Shooting Club Road…and in 1934 they changed the name of their club into English…. Boerne Shooting Club. It’s rumored that A.G. Vogt then coined the phrase “Boerne Gone Forever”.

After a huge Greyhounds victory on Friday night in Seguin, and a historic night as Coach Che Hendrix getting his 100th win, Hutson Hendrix scored 4 touchdowns and was named the Jon Wayne Player of the game but if you go to POTG.jonwayne.com - it’s actually time to vote for the player of the year… be they Greyhound or Champion Charger - find your guy and vote!  

And this Friday night in the Alamodome the Greyhounds will face a very strong Corpus Christi Carroll who beat up Alamo Heights who had Boerne’s number in the beginning of the year. We will air that game right here on Boerne Radio 103.9FM 

Well, the Aggies vs Longhorns game lived up to the hype - the 12 man was screaming full force - the Longhorn Band was drowning out the Whoopin’ - when the Longhorns got in the red zone, they pulled their starting quarterback Ewers and put in Arch Manning who ran it in on his first touch.  Texas didn’t score in the 2nd half and won the game 17-7.  Now, in 2 weeks, they have a date with the Georgia Bulldogs. 

The Spurs won another close game Sunday night- this time in Sacramento against the Kings, 127-125.

In Boerne’s Main Plaza a Texas Historical Marker honors German Music in Boerne.   The story of the Boerne Village Band right after this.

The Boerne Village Band was organized in 1860 by Dr. Karl Dienger who also organized the Boerne Gesang Verein, a singing group. Until 1885 he was in charge of both groups, and he combined singing fests with the German band music throughout the Texas Hill Country. The Band has been recognized by the German government and the State of Texas as the oldest continuous German Band in the World outside of Germany.

It’s Monday December 2nd. 

And it was on this date in 1907 that the citizens of Peck, Texas which was a small town outside of Houston changed it’s name. In 1899, As a member of the Rivers and harbors committee in the US House of Representatives, Thomas Henry secured the first federal aid for development of the Houston Ship Channel, and served as general counsel to the Port Commission of Houston…Thomas Henry died in Houston in 1944 - but how rare to have a town named after you while you’re still living...but that’s what they did to honor...Mr. Ball...happy anniversary Tomball, Texas.

Well another Dickens on Main is in the books…as the tree lighting tradition continued right on cue  in Main Plaza on Friday and the man playing the part of Dickens - top hat and all was Jay Pennington who has actually played the part for the last 15 years.

If you got your picture with Mr. Dickens in front of the Christmas tree, and don’t know the other two women in their Victorian Period Pieces - I always say you never know who you’re talking to in Boerne - Mrs. Dickens was played by the real life wife of Jay, Sarah Pennington…and playing the part of Mr. Dickens sister was Elaine Palance… the real life wife to the late great Oscar winner City Slicker Jack Palance.

It’s a busy week for the Chamber after the holiday last week. They are hosting 5 ribbon cuttings, starting tomorrow with a celebration for the 5th anniversary of the Boerne Bookshop at 11:30. By the way Dale Adams owner of the Boerne Bookshop has a show on Boerne Radio every Saturday morning at 10:30.  Tomorrow afternoon at 1:30 it’s the official grand opening of the Boerne location of Lafours Seafood Restaurant. On Thursday, the Chamber will host a ribbon cutting for Sugar Sugar at 11:30, and then one for Franklin Park Boerne Assisted Living and Memory Care at 1:30. Finally on Friday, the Chamber will host the grand opening of iCYRO Boerne at their location at 2 pm. 

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute has found that recent TxDOT projects have reduced commutes across the state according to a new analysis. The TTI analysis found that despite the number of miles traveled on the road increasing by 7% in the last five years, traffic delays in Texas are down 7% in that same period. The study also found that commuters are saving an estimated 915 million dollars in time and fuel costs.
