Their season might have come up short, but Charger Volleyball sure does have some individual talent. Each player is uniquely-gifted, and their hard work to the overall team’s effort is being recognized with all-district awards in 26-5A. Second Team- Samantha Calderon, and Taylor Fenton. First team- Brielle Boothe and Briley Wolff. The Most Valuable Setter distinction goes to Azteca Crawford and the Most Valuable Hitter was Ella Coleman. Congrats to this team and their accomplishments this year!

The once-every-four seasons game between the Texans and Cowboys happened once again, yesterday on Monday Night Football. If you’re a Texans fan, you can celebrate your team being 7-4. And if you know a Cowboys fan, call and make sure they’re okay- backup quarterbacks, turnovers, interceptions… it all described the night for both teams really, but more for the Cowboys. Final was 34-10 Texans… after the game, the Texans posted “Finally a real fight in Arlington this weekend,” referring to the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight that occurred Friday night… and it sure did seem like nothing but a straight knockout by this dominant Houston team.

The Spurs take on Oklahoma City tonight in NBA Cup Group Play at the Frost Bank Center. Tipoff will be a late one- at 8:30.

And born on this date 101 years ago today in 1923 was American Astronaut Alan Shepard.  He was one of the seven original Project Mercury astronauts, the first American in space in 1961, the 5th man to walk on the moon in 1971, and on that same trip the first to play golf on the moon…with a 6 iron head and a couple of balls he smuggled in a sock.

Big announcements were made last night at the Boerne ISD Board Meeting.

Champion High School has an official new principal in Natalie Benke in a unanimous decision.  Mrs. Benke has been the interim principal since September, as before that she was the Academic Dean.  

Another huge headline was the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees approved a mid-year compensation adjustment to school employees as a show of appreciation…more specifically starting on January 1st, hourly employees will get a $1.25 an hour bump.  And a retention incentive was approved for all teachers and employes in the amount of $300.  Boerne ISD says it also remains optimistic about increased financial support for public schools in the upcoming legislative session, as Dr. Craft is fighting for fair funding from the State of Texas.

The Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center was blessed yesterday with the Frost Bank For Good Fund grant. Their longtime volunteer, Charissa Jones Parkhill, works for Frost Bank and nominated the non-profit because of their positive impact on the community and the families they serve. 

And the City of Boerne co-sponsored The One Water Conference last week in New Braunfels in order to encourage sustainability across the greater San Antonio area. The conference focused on the “One Water” approach, which views all water – drinking water, waste, storm, and recycled– as a unified resource. The conference underscored the importance of regional collaboration in water management and highlighted the City’s dedication.

Your Champion Chargers boys competed in the Harlandale ISD Basketball Tip-off Classic and they came home with hardware - how about 1st place.  So far they are 6-0. Next game is on the road tomorrow night as the Champions Chargers take on the Churchill Chargers.  Churchill is coming off a 54-80 loss to John Jay.

It’s Monday November 18th. 

And born on this date in 1928 was none other than Mickey Mouse, or at least the version of Mickey that had a voice. Although Mickey first appeared six months earlier in a silent version of Plane Crazy, his birthday became this date due to the release of Steamboat Willie, which became Disney’s first cartoon synchronized with sound. The iconic whistle was recorded by none other than Walt Disney himself. 

Well, 1604 and I-10 are back open again after a beautiful weekend weather-wise and hopefully productive construction-wise… but not without some drama before the weekend started.…one of the bridge columns caught on fire with no known cause, creating a large plume of smoke that could be seen for miles.  Construction is scheduled to end sometime before the 2nd coming. 

The Veterans of Foreign Wars annual Voice of Democracy Competition typically sees 25,000 student essays looking to score a $30000 scholarship.  Each year, Boerne’s VFW Post 688 awards students locally and allows them to advance to the state and national competitions. This year’s theme was “Is America Today Our Forefather’s Vision?”, and two students from Boerne High School were chosen for the top three spots. Congratulations to Brady Kolle, who won 2nd place and $300, and Adam Norwood, who clutched 3rd and $200. 

Also in the category of this didn’t have this when I was a kid, congratulations to Boerne High School student and angler Braxton Ebner and his Champion High School partner Remington Stewart - they both went to Travis Lake to compete in the Texas High School Bass Association Fishing Tournament with 100 teams in the hunt…or in the catch…and guess what…Boerne brings home 1st place…the guys won a $2000 scholarship.

Saturday 11/16

It was the Geneva Eagles’ turn to get going in the football playoffs… They drew Pantego Christian last night in round 1, one of the more dominant teams in TAPPS. All season long, Geneva has found ways to come back and win games, and they were down for the majority of this one. The Eagles would soar and get some points back but it wouldn’t be enough- final was 47-24 Pantego. What a season for Geneva football and all their adversity as a team… now we look ahead to basketball season for the Eagles, and the end of volleyball season… in fact they won last night to go to the 4A TAPPS championship game in 3 sets against Brazos Christian. They play Lubbock Christian today at 10AM for the title in Waco. #TalonsUp

The Spurs lose to the Lakers in game 1 of the NBA Cup Group Play Stage, 120-115. The Spurs are now 6-7.

It’s Friday November 15th. 

The National Broadcasting Company - AKA NBC became the first nationwide radio network on this date in 1926. Broadcasting from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, 19 stations from the East Coast to Kansas City Missouri heard the live broadcast of a four hour show featuring popular music and comedy.  2.5 million people experienced the miracle of radio at the same time.

Almost 100 years later this gift called radio is a joy to bring to you here in Boerne.

A few weeks ago we reported the sighting of a potential rabib fox in Boerne…The City of Boerne reported that a fox recently found deceased near Cibolo Crossing has tested positive for rabies.   City Officials ask residents to be vigilant around wildlife, and to check your pet’s rabies vaccine record. Boerne Animal Care Services also suggests that you feed your pets inside your home or garage, bring all pet food and water inside, remove clutter and debris from your yard and to keep trash bins secured.

Heard here live on Boerne Radio last night- the football playoffs have began, and Boerne was in an interesting spot with a chance to make history and get their first playoff win as a 5A team… Boerne was slow to get the offense going, but they went up 14-0 early. The first touchdown for Carroll was off a broken play on a return… then Boerne turned it on in the 2nd half, even scoring a 2-point conversion off a blocked extra point attempt. Jaxon Baize even had a chance to come in as quarterback for a second… final was 39-21, the Greyhounds advance to the area playoffs. The Jon Wayne Player of the Game was quarterback Hank Hendrix… starting on Sunday you can vote for him to be Player of the Week! Just head to POTG.JonWayne.com.

We should know the team Boerne will face next week by late tonight- the Edcouch-Elsa YellowJackets and the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots will play tonight at 7, and the winner will see the Greyhounds.

Tonight here on Boerne Radio… the match up everyone in the city has been waiting for. Corpus Christi Carroll comes to the Hill Country to face the Greyhounds for the bi-district championship… It's the first round of the playoffs here on the station with a chance for the Greyhounds to make history and produce their first 5A playoff win as a program… Our coverage will start at 6:30 with the pregame show. Kickoff will be at 7… join myself and Dave Gremillion using your radio, the Boerne Radio App, or BoerneRadio.com on your web browser to listen. 

This morning, 5 Champion Chargers will be signing their intents to continue athletics at different universities. Jackson Melanson to Missouri S&T for baseball, Sawyer Smith to A&M Kingsville for baseball, Ella Coleman to Wofford College for volleyball, Phoenix Guerra to Texas State for Golf, and Maddie Meinke to Western Colorado for Track and Field. 

A historic night for the Spurs… a historic night for Victor Wembanyama… I want you to guess how many points Wemby scored in the 139-130 victory over Washington… I’ll give you a moment… if you guessed 50, you’re correct. He had a career-high 50-point game, and 24 of those points came off a career-high 8 of 16 3-point shooting stat he obtained. Some more history… he is the only 7-foot-tall player to have 8 threes in a game, is the 4th-youngest player to score 50 points, he scored it in 28 minutes, and is the first Spur all time to have 50 and more than 5 threes in a game. He is also the 167th NBA player in history to score 50 points or more at least once.

This morning, 5 Champion Chargers will be signing their intents to continue athletics at different universities. Jackson Melanson to Missouri S&amp;T for baseball, Sawyer Smith to A&amp;M Kingsville for baseball, Ella Coleman to Wofford College for volleyball, Phoenix Guerra to Texas State for Golf, and Maddie Meinke to Western Colorado for Track and Field. 
A historic night for the Spurs… a historic night for Victor Wembanyama… I want you to guess how many points Wemby scored in the 139-130 victory over Washington… I’ll give you a moment… if you guessed 50, you’re correct. He had a career-high 50-point game, and 24 of those points came off a career-high 8 of 16 3-point shooting stat he obtained. Some more history… he is the only 7-foot-tall player to have 8 threes in a game, is the 4th-youngest player to score 50 points, he scored it in 28 minutes, and is the first Spur all time to have 50 and more than 5 threes in a game. He is also the 167th NBA player in history to score 50 points or more at least once.

Apollo 12 was the 6th successful manned space flight executed by the United States, the 2nd trip to the moon with Commander Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr. who was the 3rd man to ever walk the moon’s surface, followed by #4, Alan Bean…and poor Richard Gordon only got to pilot the command module…but someone had to do it.

The Kendall County Blue Santa Program is back like pumpkin spice but twice as nice. The Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch Police Departments, as well as the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office are looking for donations of new, unwrapped gifts. Each department has an amazon wish list, but bring a $10 toy to Boerne Radio’s Boost Boerne Business event on December 4th at the Bevy Hotel, you could win a $500 credit on Boerne Radio.

The Boerne Education Foundation held their annual fundraiser a couple of days ago and the finals numbers are in - $196,000 in Teacher Innovation Grants. These grants will empower the teachers to take learning to new heights and make a difference in the lives of our students. Hi, I’m Laura Bray and I’m Chair of the Kendall County Democratic Party.

And I’m Susan Dollar, President of the Boerne Area Democrats. We’re here to talk about the ongoing election, the importance of voting, and issues important to Kendall County Voters.

Your last chance to vote in this historic election is Tuesday, November 5 at any of eleven locations in Kendall County. All voting locations are open from 7am to 7pm. You can find a list of those locations on the Kendall County Elections website. Please remember to bring your photo ID when you go vote.

We urge every registered voter in Kendall to get out their and cast their ballot!

Issues

We want to chat about two more of the issues that resonate with Kendall County voters. Last week, we discussed public school funding and the economy. This week, we’ll move on to women’s healthcare and immigration.

WOMEN’S HEALTHCARE: What happened to the Republican position of “no government interference”? Women should have control over their own bodies. Without freedom to make decisions about their own lives and bodies, women are no better than slaves.

We know that better health leads to improved lives and economic prosperity. This is particularly true for women who comprise over 50% of the population and nearly half the workforce.

The U.S. has the highest rate of infant and maternal death rates – a shortfall exacerbated by poverty, a lack of insurance, underinsurance, and the closure many rural healthcare providers. In fact, Texas ranks last in the nation in access to insurance. The number of women in Texas who died while pregnant, during labor or soon after childbirth has skyrocketed. From 2019 to 2022, the rate of maternal mortality cases in Texas rose by 56%, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period.

????  It is estimated that there are more than 26,000 rape-related pregnancies in Texas after the state passes SB 8 in 2021.

TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE…

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the nation, with roughly 20% of the state's population lacking health insurance. Many of these uninsured residents are working adults who can't afford private or subsidized insurance but don't qualify for Medicaid because they earn too much

Texas is one of 10 states that has not expanded Medicaid. It also has the highest rate of uninsured people in the country: 21% of Texans are uninsured, in comparison to the national average of 10%.

The eligibility requirements for Texans under Medicaid are some of the strictest in the United States: For parents and caretakers of kids who are covered by Medicaid, a family of four with two parents has to make at or below $285 a month to be eligible.



Texas Republicans have opposed Medicaid expansion for years. Back in 2015, Gov. Greg Abbott said “Medicaid expansion is wrong for Texas,” But a 2020 poll by the Episcopal Health Foundation showed nearly seven in 10 Texans “think the state should expand Medicaid to provide health insurance to more low-income Texans who are uninsured.”

The federal government would pick up 90% of the cost. Research showed that by rejecting Medicaid expansion, Texas was turning its back on more than $5 billion in federal money every year.

Research shows the impact of Medicaid expansion is widespread: People have better dental health and lose fewer teeth to decay; teens have improved access to contraceptives, which reduces their chances of unintended pregnancy; pregnant people have access to postpartum coverage after childbirth for a longer period, which contributes to lower maternal mortality and morbidity rates; and children who age out of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are less likely to lose insurance as they become adults.

Let’s move on to Immigration. This year, there was a bipartisan immigration reform bill before the US Congress. The US Border Patrol even supported it. But Trump issued his orders, and his cronies in Congress, including our current Rep Chip Roy, killed the bill. That’s one reason we’re urging voters to vote for Kristin Hook for US District 21, who the San Antonio Express News endorsed a few weeks ago.

Democrats support finding long-term solutions to address the border crisis and fix our broken immigration system so that everyone feels safe. 

Immigrants aren’t “invading” the U.S. Migrants have a legal right, enshrined in law, to seek asylum in the U.S. They aren’t a public enemy, making war, of using military force to take over the U.S.

Migrants come to the U.S. for many reasons -- work, school, family, and safety. The U.S. doesn’t have enough people to fill the 9.5M jobs currently open. Immigrants typically take the hardest-to-fill positions. Immigrants, including undocumented, make significant sales, income, and property tax contributions. The U.S. population will shrink without increased immigration.



Immigrants, including undocumented, make significant tax contributions including sales, income, and property taxes. In 2021 alone, these households contributed $30.8 billion in total taxes, including $18.6 billion in federal income taxes and $12.2 billion in state and local taxes. These contributions play a vital role in the funding and sustainability of America’s public services and programs. Undocumented immigrants quietly pay billions into Social Security without receiving benefits.

???? Another issue surrounding immigration is that of the DEFERRED ACTION FOR CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS (DACA):

The DACA program protects “Dreamers” from deportation - those brought to the U.S. as children (under 16 y/o) and who’ve resided continuously in the U.S. since June 15, 2007. DACA recipients add $2.1B to Social Security and Medicare yearly. 

DACA recipients (and young undocumented immigrants immediately eligible for DACA) also add an estimated $1.7B yearly in state and local taxes (including personal income, sales, & property taxes).

Codifying DACA into law and enrolling all eligible immigrants would increase estimated state and local revenue by nearly $815M.   Bur repealing DACA would reduce estimated state and local revenues by nearly $700M (due to a loss of legal status and work authorization).

For US Senate: Colin Allred, who was endorsed by the San Antonio Express News

For US District 21: Kristin Hook, who was endorsed by the San Antonio Express News

For Texas House District 19: Dwain Handley

For Texas Senate District 25: Merrie Fox who was endorsed by the San Antonio Express News, and

For State Board of Education, District 10: Raquel Saenz Ortiz

Democrats need to flip only 12 seats to stop vouchers and the rest of the extreme Republican agenda from passing in next year’s Texas Legislature.

Texas has the highest rate of uninsured residents in the nation, with roughly 20% of the state's population lacking health insurance. Many of these uninsured residents are working adults who can't afford private or subsidized insurance but don't qualify for Medicaid because they earn too much
Texas is one of 10 states that has not expanded Medicaid. It also has the highest rate of uninsured people in the country: 21% of Texans are uninsured, in comparison to the national average of 10%.
The eligibility requirements for Texans under Medicaid are some of the strictest in the United States: For parents and caretakers of kids who are covered by Medicaid, a family of four with two parents has to make at or below <a href="https://www.hhs.texas.gov/services/health/medicaid-chip/medicaid-chip-programs-services/programs-children-families/medicaid-parents-caretakers">$285 a month</a> to be eligible.
 
Texas Republicans have opposed Medicaid expansion for years. Back in 2015, Gov. Greg Abbott said <a href="https://gov.texas.gov/news/post/governor_abbott_supports_floridas_decision_to_take_legal_action_against_exp">“Medicaid expansion is wrong for Texas,”</a> But a 2020 poll by the Episcopal Health Foundation showed nearly seven in 10 Texans <a href="https://www.episcopalhealth.org/enews/new-ehf-poll-shows-sweeping-support-for-medicaid-expansion-in-texas/">“think the state should expand Medicaid to provide health insurance to more low-income Texans who are uninsured.”</a>
The federal government would pick up 90% of the cost. Research showed that by rejecting Medicaid expansion, Texas was turning its back on more than $5 billion in federal money every year.
Research shows the impact of Medicaid expansion is widespread: People have better <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2784596?resultClick=24">dental health and lose fewer teeth to decay</a>; teens have <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamanetworkopen/fullarticle/2766783?resultClick=1">improved access to contraceptives</a>, which reduces their chances of unintended pregnancy; pregnant people have access to <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2787277?resultClick=24">postpartum coverage after childbirth for a longer period</a>, which contributes to lower maternal mortality and morbidity rates; and children who age out of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are <a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-health-forum/fullarticle/2794387?resultClick=24">less likely to lose insurance as they become adults</a>.
Let’s move on to Immigration. This year, there was a bipartisan immigration reform bill before the US Congress. The US Border Patrol even supported it. But Trump issued his orders, and his cronies in Congress, including our current Rep Chip Roy, killed the bill. That’s one reason we’re urging voters to vote for Kristin Hook for US District 21, who the San Antonio Express News endorsed a few weeks ago.
Democrats support finding long-term solutions to address the border crisis and fix our broken immigration system so that everyone feels safe. 
Immigrants aren’t “invading” the U.S. Migrants have a legal right, enshrined in law, to seek asylum in the U.S. They aren’t a public enemy, making war, of using military force to take over the U.S.
Migrants come to the U.S. for many reasons -- work, school, family, and safety. The U.S. doesn’t have enough people to fill <a href="https://www.bls.gov/jlt/">the 9.5M jobs currently open</a>. Immigrants typically take the hardest-to-fill positions. Immigrants, including undocumented, make significant sales, income, and property tax contributions. <a href="https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2023/population-projections.html">The U.S. population will shrink without increased immigration</a>.
 
Immigrants, including undocumented, make significant tax contributions including sales, income, and property taxes. In 2021 alone, these households contributed $30.8 billion in total taxes, including $18.6 billion in federal income taxes and $12.2 billion in state and local taxes. These contributions play a vital role in the funding and sustainability of America’s public services and programs. Undocumented immigrants quietly pay billions into Social Security without receiving benefits.
???? Another issue surrounding immigration is that of the DEFERRED ACTION FOR CHILDHOOD ARRIVALS (DACA): 
The DACA program protects “Dreamers” from deportation - those brought to the U.S. as children (under 16 y/o) and who’ve resided continuously in the U.S. since June 15, 2007. DACA recipients add $2.1B to Social Security and Medicare yearly. 
DACA recipients (and young undocumented immigrants immediately eligible for DACA) also add an estimated $1.7B yearly in state and local taxes (including personal income, sales, &amp; property taxes).
Codifying DACA into law and enrolling all eligible immigrants would increase estimated state and local revenue by nearly $815M.   Bur repealing DACA would reduce estimated state and local revenues by nearly $700M (due to a loss of legal status and work authorization).

Republicans?

Early Voting is vital because it allows voters to cast their ballot between October 21 and
November 1 at their convenience, ensuring that unforeseen events don’t prevent them from
voting.
For Republicans, it’s our chance to lock in support for leaders like Donald J. Trump, who’s
fighting to keep America strong, and Ted Cruz, who continues to defend conservative values in
the U.S. Senate. It also allows us to secure victories for our down-ballot candidates like Ellen
Troxclair for State Representative and Donna Campbell for State Senate.

How does Early Voting help secure Republican victories, especially in this election?
Mike Wheeler:
Early Voting gives us a strategic advantage. By voting early, we lock in our support before

It’s also crucial for our local candidates—Jennifer McCall and Richard Chapman, running for

We’ve talked about the top of the ticket, but why are down-ballot races so important?

Down-ballot races, such as County Commissioners, Sheriffs, and Constables, directly impact our
daily lives. These offices manage everything from public safety to local taxes.
Jennifer McCall and Richard Chapman will ensure that our county is managed efficiently with
fiscal responsibility. Al Auxier has a proven record of keeping our communities safe as Sheriff.
Voting down the ballot means we’re electing leaders who align with our conservative values and
will work hard to improve our daily lives.
We also have candidates like Chip Roy for U.S. Representative in the 21st congressional district,
Christi Craddock for Railroad Commissioner, and important judicial candidates like Jimmy
Blacklock for Texas Supreme Court Place 2, John Devine for Place 4, and Jane Bland for Place
6.
Remember, skipping a race on the ballot or leaving one blank is essentially the same as voting

In addition to those already mentioned, we have important races like David Schenck for
Presiding Judge of the Criminal Court of Appeals, Gina Parker for Place 7, Lee Finley for Place
8, Tom Maynard for State Board of Education, Todd McCray, Lori Massey Brissette, Adrian

Spears, and Lori Valenzuela for 4th Court of Appeals Place 3, 4, 5, and 7, respectively. We also
have Constable races—Todd Setliff for Pct. 1, Paul Knoll for Pct. 2, Gene Serene for Pct. 3, and
Brian Vaughan for Pct. 4. Finally, James Hudson is running for Tax Assessor-Collector.
We also have a Tax Rate Election on the ballot for voters in Blanco ISD, extending into the
northeastern part of Kendall County, including the Kendalia area.
Voting Republican ensures our county, state, and nation remain strong and free. And let’s not
forget the rallying cry: Make America Great Again! This message resonates with so many of us
because it embodies our commitment to restoring our values and securing a prosperous future.

Seven years after Kendall County was organized, the first county courthouse was completed in 1870. Local Surveyor John James donated the land.  The courthouse was a small one-story structure that housed the first county jail on the northeast corner. The structure we see today includes the addition of a second story to the original courthouse, which operated for 128 years. This Kendall County building is the second oldest Texas courthouse in continuous use.

Their twin sons Aaron and Allen were killed in World War II combat. They graduated from Boerne High School in 1944 and joined the Navy, where they were assigned to the USS Bismarck Sea. On the evening of Feb. 21, 1945, the Bismarck Sea had just recovered her aircraft from a strike when a swarm of Japanese planes appeared, with one crashing into the battleship. Allen went back to look for Aaron before abandoning the ship. They perished as the USS Bismarck Sea sank to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean in less than 90 minutes.

Mostly likely, Joe Vogt built the home next to his store at 421 Main back in 1890.  The small building housed a general store, a barbershop and a doctor’s office. Veterans Plaza on South Main features the Veterans War Memorial in its center. In 1923, the H.J. Graham's family erected the monument honoring the Boerne men who died in World War I. Years later a bronze piece was added to the top of the monument and plaques were added to recognize those killed in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam.  In 2014, plaques were added in honor of those killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.  When the park was dedicated on March 6th 1923, Eugene Goldbeck documented the day with a panoramic picture that hangs in City Hall.  100 years later to the day, Boerne citizens duplicated the picture in 2023, as Goldbeck’s grandson captured that moment.

In 1862 the family was issued 160 acres along the Cibolo five miles northeast of Boerne and another by 160 acres located on the headwaters of Joshua Creek. In 1867 the Boerne Cemetery was established and August was one of the first of 33 to buy a burial plot where he rests today.

San Antonio physician Dr. Herff maintained his farm as a summer home until 1894 when his son, Charles moved to Boerne to manage the property until the early 1920s. In 1935, George and Erma Rozelle purchased 68 acres from Charles’ son. The property was last occupied in the mid-1980s. The family home, a two-story, limestone structure built in 1883, remains intact along with agricultural and domestic structures. In 2007 the Cibolo Center for Conservation purchased the farm that is now home to the Nest Nature School, community gardens and the weekly Farmer’s Market.

Across the street from St. Helena’s Episcopal Church on Main Street stood Saint Mary’s Sanitarium.  This three story building with a steep roof was opened in 1896 with the help of Dr. Ferdinand Herff.  The Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word grew the Sanitarium from 20 beds to 50. Boerne was the destination for patience with Tuberculosis also known as the "white plague”.  The St. Mary’s Sanitarium closed and was torn down around 1924.  Today another 3 story building sits on the same site…our Boerne City Hall.

The Kendall has had several names and owners since 1859.  It started when Erastus and Sarah Reed from Georgia purchased the land from John James for $200.  They built the center section as their home.  They began renting out the 4 spare rooms to stagecoach travelers and horsemen, as the inns grounds served as a wagon yard for ranchers.

Then it was called the Reed House, then the King Place when Col. Henry C. King took over.  Next owners J.C. Rountree and W.L. Wadsworth turned it into the Boerne Hotel.  In 1909, Dr. Barnitz renamed it Ye Kendall Inn and added electrical wiring and community bathrooms.  Today The Kendall is one of the few remaining 19th Century Resort Hotels in Texas.

Not long after the Civil War, a young deacon came to the Hill Country to establish Boerne’s first church, but the free thinking founding fathers said you’re going to have to built that thing outside of town on the other side of the Cibolo.   The story of St. Peter’s Catholic Church right after this.

St. Peter’s Catholic Church held its first Mass in 1867, led by Father Emil Fleury.  The small limestone chapel was built with physical and financial help from parishioners including Kendall, Phillips, Staffel, Dienger, Sultenfuss, and O'Grady. 

In 1923 a larger church was built next door in the classic Spanish Mission style with the help of the Kronkosky Family.  Father Fleury who started St. Peters as a young man, helped lay the cornerstone at the age of 80.
