This week, the Kendall County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Marshall are attending the Texas Division of Emergency Management meeting in Fort Worth.  The conference brings together professionals from all across the state to share knowledge, strengthen partnerships, and discuss the latest strategies in preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts. Fire Marshal Brady Constantine will also be presenting at this year's conference-he will be focused on lessons learned from recent disasters in Kendall County as the second ever Emergency coordinator. 

 

The Cibolo Center for Conservation is adding a new feature to their farmer’s market at the Herff farm that may pique the interest of local gardeners. On the last Saturday of each month, Farm Manager Shyann will offer a free guided tour in the teaching garden. During these sessions, you can learn about what's growing throughout the season, ask gardening questions and learn about the programs they offer.  Also the first Moondance at the Cibolo is this Saturday with Cactus Country Band.  This is the same band playing on the 4th of July at the Tower of the Americas in San Antonio.

 

The Spurs are playing Oklahoma City tonight with a 7:30 start - Boerne was in the house if you saw it, Shan and I were in the stands, Boerne Radio’s Roland Ruiz is also your PA announcer for the Spurs and if you saw our pictures on the Boerne Radio Facebook page, the Kendall County Honor Guard had the privilege of presenting the colors. Representatives from the Boerne Police Department, Bergheim Fire Department, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Management made us all proud.  Go Spurs Go.

We’ve officially reached that point in the year where no high school sports are currently active within the city - we look ahead to next year of course but also acknowledge the past. Champion Baseball just had an amazing season just cut short, and Boerne High Softball battled through a tough district - both have players who shined and made All-State lists. Big game 5 now tonight for the Spurs as they head back to Oklahoma City. If they play like they did on Sunday, they may have a chance to put the Thunder on the ropes tonight where game 6 would come back to the Alamo City and the Spurs could head to their first NBA Finals since 2014. Tip-off is at 7:30 on NBC… and whoever wins this series will play the New York Knicks. They defeated Cleveland in a sweep 130-93 last night to secure it. Should make for one great series whoever wins from the West.

And we’ve been so caught up with high school baseball and the Spurs, that we haven’t checked in with our baseball friends in Houston and Arlington- both teams battling each other this week in a 4-game series, and last night for the 18th time in the team’s history, the Astros had a no-hitter. A combined effort by Tatsuya Imai, Steven Okert, and Alimber Santa, who was making his Major League debut, led to a 9-0 shutout of the Rangers in Arlington… Thanks for coming. The teams will play each other through Thursday.

We’ll start with the bad news from over the weekend- game 3 for Champion baseball, a do or die, was quite the interesting one- Rouse scored first and had 5 runs by the fourth inning. Until the top of the fourth, when Brody Bendele sends one out of the yard for a 2-run home run… and we have a game now. It’s 5-4 Rouse after Champion scored another couple… but the Raiders weren’t done either. Rouse would score 5 more in the next few frames and Champion would be held to none. The final in game 3 was 10-4, Rouse advances, and the Champion season comes to an end. A big accomplishment to reach this stage of the postseason and be just that close. This team is destined for good things, I promise you. Go Chargers!

And this is what it sounded like in San Antonio after the Spurs found a way and defeated Oklahoma City in game 4, 103-82. It was a big game for San Antonio to win, they played with urgency, and did everything right. Wemby even pulled a buzzer beater from half court right before the half… that’s how you knew it was a good night. Now the series is tied 2-2, and game 5 is in OKC tomorrow night. A lot at stake and a potential momentum shifter yet again for the top 2 teams in the west.
