Sena says the board has saved taxpayers $27 million in interest since 2023 and $85 million since 2016 while maintaining one of the lowest regional school tax rates, and notes BISD spends about $3,000 less per student than the Texas average. He discusses P-TECH early college programs in cybersecurity and health careers, expanded career and technical pathways, JROTC, character development efforts, and BISD’s A rating, 99%+ graduation rate, and Boerne Academy options. Sena also addresses recapture (“Robinhood”), property tax relief advocacy, teacher pay and retention allotments, growth planning, land banking, and preserving local traditions. After the fall of the Alamo in 1836, General Santa Anna’s army marched East to Goliad where on this date about 350 Texan prisoners were executed which is why the battle cry at San Jacinto was “Remember The Alamo, Remember Goliad!”

Hard to believe April will be here next Wednesday as it’s National Child Abuse Awareness Month, and the City is getting together for a special Breakfast on April 15th at St. Helena’s Episcopal Church.  They are calling it the North Region’s Blue Breakfast as Boerne Police Chief Perez, Sheriff Al Auxier, and Judge McDaniel are some of the leaders speaking and you are invited to this free Blue Breakfast.  You must RSVP by April 1st when you email Hollye Pickett at Hpickett@sjrctexas.org. 

 

Kerr County has confirmed its second case of rabies this week-this time in a bat found in Center Point. The animal was found inside a home in the 100 block of JJ Lane in Center Point, and unfortunately the diseased animal came into contact with the family’s pets. In keeping with protocol that is outlined by state law, the family’s pet dog, which had previously been vaccinated for rabies, was quickly given a booster inoculation and is isolating in the family’s home. Remember, if you see an animal acting strangely, it’s best to call animal control and steer clear of it’s path. 

 

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office has been receiving reports of scammers contacting residents while posing as Deputy Jordan Dullnig. The caller claims you have a warrant for failure to appear for jury duty and may demand payment to resolve the issue.This is a scam, as the Sheriff’s Office will never call you to demand payment for a warrant. 

 

Have you seen the great progress on our Northside Community Park on Adler? Over the last month of study momentum, the area now contains the Basketball pavilion, with stone column work continuing, and has laid the foundations for 3 restrooms. Also underway is stormwater and low impact development infrastructure and electrical trenching.  More elements to come include the dog park, 12 outdoor pickleball courts, and an ADA half-mile walking trail.

 

Hey don’t forget tomorrow is the big 13th annual Garage Sale at the Kendall County Fairgrounds.  Doors open at 8, ends at 4, and all the details are at KCFA.org.

Big baseball game tonight over at Boerne High School as the Chargers and Greyhounds face off again at 7. Boerne High Softball seeks their 13th win of the year as the Greyhounds host Veterans Memorial at 7. 

Usually it’s a great day to be a UT Longhorn or Houston Cougar, but just not today. Texas lost to Purdue in the round of 16 by only 2- final was 79-77, Boilermakers advance. Houston had a tough battle with Illinois who had a bunch of international players. The final from Houston was 65-55. Women’s Sweet 16 games begin today, but Texas and TCU don’t play until tomorrow. We’ll have a full preview tomorrow here on Boerne Radio sports.
