August Ludwig Pfeiffer was born in 1809 in Germany.  At the age of 46, August, his wife Wilhelmine and their eight children sailed from Prussia to New Orleans, and originally homesteaded near Kreutzberg. In 1862 the family was issued 160 acres along the Cibolo five miles northeast of Boerne and another by 160 acres located on the headwaters of Joshua Creek. In 1867 the Boerne Cemetery was established and August was one of the first of 33 to buy a burial plot where he rests today.

Their season might have come up short, but Charger Volleyball sure does have some individual talent. Each player is uniquely-gifted, and their hard work to the overall team’s effort is being recognized with all-district awards in 26-5A. Second Team- Samantha Calderon, and Taylor Fenton. First team- Brielle Boothe and Briley Wolff. The Most Valuable Setter distinction goes to Azteca Crawford and the Most Valuable Hitter was Ella Coleman. Congrats to this team and their accomplishments this year!

The once-every-four seasons game between the Texans and Cowboys happened once again, yesterday on Monday Night Football. If you’re a Texans fan, you can celebrate your team being 7-4. And if you know a Cowboys fan, call and make sure they’re okay- backup quarterbacks, turnovers, interceptions… it all described the night for both teams really, but more for the Cowboys. Final was 34-10 Texans… after the game, the Texans posted “Finally a real fight in Arlington this weekend,” referring to the Jake Paul and Mike Tyson fight that occurred Friday night… and it sure did seem like nothing but a straight knockout by this dominant Houston team.

The Spurs take on Oklahoma City tonight in NBA Cup Group Play at the Frost Bank Center. Tipoff will be a late one- at 8:30.

It’s Tuesday November 19th.

And born on this date 101 years ago today in 1923 was American Astronaut Alan Shepard.  He was one of the seven original Project Mercury astronauts, the first American in space in 1961, the 5th man to walk on the moon in 1971, and on that same trip the first to play golf on the moon…with a 6 iron head and a couple of balls he smuggled in a sock.

Big announcements were made last night at the Boerne ISD Board Meeting.

Champion High School has an official new principal in Natalie Benke in a unanimous decision.  Mrs. Benke has been the interim principal since September, as before that she was the Academic Dean.  

Another huge headline was the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees approved a mid-year compensation adjustment to school employees as a show of appreciation…more specifically starting on January 1st, hourly employees will get a $1.25 an hour bump.  And a retention incentive was approved for all teachers and employes in the amount of $300.  Boerne ISD says it also remains optimistic about increased financial support for public schools in the upcoming legislative session, as Dr. Craft is fighting for fair funding from the State of Texas.

The Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center was blessed yesterday with the Frost Bank For Good Fund grant. Their longtime volunteer, Charissa Jones Parkhill, works for Frost Bank and nominated the non-profit because of their positive impact on the community and the families they serve. 

And the City of Boerne co-sponsored The One Water Conference last week in New Braunfels in order to encourage sustainability across the greater San Antonio area. The conference focused on the “One Water” approach, which views all water – drinking water, waste, storm, and recycled– as a unified resource. The conference underscored the importance of regional collaboration in water management and highlighted the City’s dedication.

Alright this Thursday night…the small town team that was 4A last year, 5A this year - competes all year - and in their 100th year of football in Boerne Texas - your Boerne Greyhounds advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs after earning their Bi-District Trophy  and will now face Edcouch-Elsa High School who are 9-2 this season…- as your Greyhounds will head south to Laredo’ Shirley Field for the Thursday night game…if you can’t make the drive you can surely cheer them on live right here on Boerne Radio 103.9FM - streaming at boerneradio.com and on the Boerne Radio App thanks to our partners at Texas Sports Productions…

And by the way, if you get inspired Sophomore Greyhound Quarterback Hank Hendrix was the Jon Wayne Player of the game last Thursday - looking to be the Jon Wayne player of the week with your vote - so go vote at POTG.jonwayne.com.   Also worth noting, in that last game Hutson Hendrix broke the schools all time tackling record, and Brooks Perez broke the all time receiving yards record for Boerne High School.  And while Brooks is excelling in football, last week the man committed to the University of Houston to play Cougar Baseball. And then Dylan Perez signed up to play Baylor Baseball. 

Your Champion Chargers boys competed in the Harlandale ISD Basketball Tip-off Classic and they came home with hardware - how about 1st place.  So far they are 6-0. Next game is on the road tomorrow night as the Champions Chargers take on the Churchill Chargers.  Churchill is coming off a 54-80 loss to John Jay.
