In 1881, Episcopal Bishop Robert W.W. Elliott noted that Boerne was a favorite resort for invalids seeking the cure of pulmonary troubles and needed a church to minister to them, so a small wooden church was built. The cornerstone described its members as twenty strong living in a town of four hundred residents. Union with the new Episcopal Diocese of West Texas was approved in 1905 with the Rev. Albert Massey as the first rector. The early church building was torn down in 1929 to build the larger Gothic style building that exists today at the corner of Johns Road and Main Street.
