He was an American politician who first served as a State Rep in Indiana, then became the 25th Speaker of the House, and then the 17th Vice President of the United States under President Grant. Colfax was known for his opposition to slavery while serving in Congress, and was one of the founders of the Republican Party. Oh…that Skyler Colfax.
And some big birthdays today - Chaka Khan turns 72 today, Chaka Khan, Chaka Khan…i already said that… Rick Ocasek was born on this date in 1944, and right here in Boerne Happy Birthday to Josh Murray with the Murray Service Company, Ryan Whaley over at Live Oak Investors, Courtney Hadley and Theron Johnson.

Last Thursday Brooklyn Chandler Willy plead guilty in connection to a Ponzi scheme involving two Lubbock businessmen. She owned Queen B Advisors in San Antonio with an office on Main Street in Boerne. Federal officials say she faces multiple charges, including wire fraud, money laundering, and identity theft. Investigators say she misused millions of dollars from investors for personal expenses and to pay others in the scheme. Willy could face decades in prison, with sentencing scheduled for September 28th.
If you missed the weekend edition of the Boerne Star, here were some of the highlights. Peggy’s on the Green has been invited to return to the Boerne scene if an upcoming project is approved on Main Street. Developers laid out plans for a new retail center on the Hill Country Mile called Park Plaza, a 12,000-square-foot center that could offer space to high-quality eateries. The sad part of all this is the address - 305 thru 325 North Main which is the current home of Boerne Grooming and Pet Shop.
The Kendall County Elections Office could also be moving to the Burdick Center on Old San Antonio Road.
And the Art Waddle which takes place every May, will now be called the Art and Wine Fest starting this year.
This week the Boerne Chamber is hosting three ribbon cuttings, starting with Davies Digital Solutions at 11:30 tomorrow morning. Then on Thursday, The Model Box will will be celebrated at 11:30, followed by iTrive AI at 1:30. The Chambers annual golf tournament is this Friday at Tapatio Springs.
