Absolute program dominance from Boerne High and Champion Volleyball teams last night - Greyhounds against Harlandale and Champion against John Jay - to sum it all up, the varsity, JV, and freshmen programs all completed sweeps across the two schools. And from Champion, another milestone accomplished in varsity as Finley Weikle reached her 500th career kill! 

Geneva Volleyball also defeated Veritas in three sets. 

PROGRAMMING ALERT - tune into Boerne Radio tonight at 6 for the Boerne Radio Coaches Show, live from 28 Songs Brewhouse and Kitchen. Geneva Football Coach Adam Foren will join the program, and talk Eagle football with the dominance of the first three weeks- and you can also stop by and order that $10.39 chili dog with fries or tots. 

And after the Coaches Show concludes, you can stay at 28 Songs and catch the first NFL game of the season- a rematch of the Super Bowl between the Patriots and Seahawks. The Texans and Cowboys won’t play until Sunday, but… and here’s something to scratch your head. So, I’m sure you know of the NFL video game named after John Madden, right? Well, according to Yahoo Sports, EA, the company that manufactures the game, simulated the upcoming season all the way to the Super Bowl- the Cowboys are in it, they play the Broncos, and hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy, 31-14. Bookmark this for when it happens in February… but the Texans play the Bills Sunday at noon, and the Cowboys take on the Giants on Sunday Night Football, at 7:20.

And it was on this date in 1956 that Elvis Presley made his first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show.  About 60 million people watched — more than 80 percent of the television audience that night.

The 6th annual Tug The Truck hosted by the 100 Club of Kendall County is back this Saturday in front of the Black Rifle Coffee Company.  The event supports our local first responders, with registration beginning at 7:30 and opening ceremonies at 8:15.  Followed by the classic Guns and Hoses Tug of War - that’s the Boerne PD vs the Boerne Fire Department.  And your team can compete in the Tug the Truck, the Police Car Push, and Drag the Dummy for the “Top Dawg” title.  There’ll also be local vendors, raffles, and something new this year - a dunking booth…and yours truly will be in that dunking booth so a special challenge to all you belly pitchers - bring it I say… you can sign up your team now at RaceEntry.com for Tug the Truck.

 

The Comfort Public Library needs your help! There has been a mix-up in the receipt of their weekly copies of The Comfort News. If you have any copies of the news from June 8th until now and have the time, the Comfort Library would love to collect them to put on file. 

 

Your digital copy of the Boerne Star is out now with more full color pics of the Kendall County Fair, and the new Fair Queens, and it has the details on Comfort Arts Festival on September 19th. 

 

The beginning of construction preparations began yesterday on Dietz Elkhorn in Fair Oaks Ranch. This mobilization phase is expected to last until September 14th, so residents and drivers should expect to see crews arriving on-site, large construction equipment moving throughout the project area, and other activity as the contractor prepares for construction. Starting on Monday is when the actual construction begins, which will move in 3 phases along the road. During this time, drivers are encouraged to use caution, watch for construction vehicles and follow all posted signs and traffic-control measures. 

 

Also happening in Fair Oaks Ranch next week is an Oak Wilt Workshop hosted by the Fair Oaks Ranch Homeowners Association. This event on Tuesday at 7 will allow residents to learn more about the destructive tree disease and what you can do to help protect the oak trees throughout our community. Texas A&M Forrester Elizabeth Nyawo will be presenting as well as the Environmental Program Manager at Spring Creek United Methodist Church.

It’s Tuesday September 8th. 

Our nation's Pledge Of Allegiance was published on this day in 1892 by Francis Bellamy. The original version published in the Youth’s Companion was a bit shorter than what we have today: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. The words “Of the United States of America” were added in 1923, and “Under God” was added in 1954 by President Eisenhower.

The Kendall County Sheriff's Office shared the sad news yesterday that Judge Frieda J. Pressler has passed away. She spent nearly 40 years on the bench, serving as Precinct 4’s Justice of the Peace since 1986.  Her service to Kendall County began with Kendall County EMS in the early 80s. In the Sheriff's Office Facebook post, they added  she was “a familiar and trusted presence” for generations in the community, and that her legacy includes the people she “helped, encouraged, and cared for along the way.”  They also added a scripture: Matthew 25:23 that says “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

The Boerne Star gave us an update over the weekend on Crestmont Christian Preparatory School’s move to the Old City Hall Building on Blanco. Currently, grades Kindergarten through 5 meet at St. John Lutheran Church, and grades six through 12 are taught at First United Methodist. October 6th will mark the beginning of classes starting in the new building, housing 149 students, which is the largest class in the school’s history. A building dedication ceremony will take place on October 9th. 

Boerne ISD now has eight campuses recognized among the most military-friendly schools in Texas.  Six campuses earned the state’s Purple Star designation this year, including Boerne and Champion High Schools, Boerne Middle School North, Voss Middle School, Cibolo Creek Elementary, and Van Raub Elementary.  They join Curington Elementary and Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary, which earned the honor last year.  Purple Star schools provide special resources, transition programs, and support for military-connected students and families.  Boerne ISD says its goal is for every campus in the district to eventually earn the designation.

The State Board of Education honored Mrs. Kathy Bandujo and Mr. Jacques DuBose as 2026 Heroes for Children. Mrs. Bandujo leads Blessings in a Backpack, the organization that provides weekend food staples to countless families across the district, and Mr. DuBose is the Vice President of Corporate Sponsorships for Boerne ISD Parent Teacher Organizations. They were joined by Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft, Rich Sena and Yvette Reyna in Austin to receive the honors.  Annelise and our own weather veteran Jacques F. DuBose were by Jascques’s side.
