Geneva swimmers and aquatics athletes are getting some recognition following a historic season. Reid Wilson was named 1st Team All-State in the 100 breastroke category. He was also 1 of 4 named to the academic all-state team along with Samuel Crews, Abigail Bussey, and Ella Grace Owens.

And from water to on land- the track and field team is headed to New Braunfels Christian for their next meet. We will have results here on Boerne Radio Sports. 

The district tournament for 5A tennis is taking place at Alamo Heights and yesterday, Aiden Cebe from Boerne High secured a spot in the final round today. The top 2 in district will head to regionals in Corpus Christi soon. Best of luck to Aiden today.

Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center hosts a special day to intentionally pray about their mission.   This Friday they will host a virtual Day of Prayer. If you support the mission, you can receive a prayer list by clicking the link in the news blog at Boerneradio.com.

Officially the National Day of Prayer is always the 1st Thursday in May and here in Boerne the day will start with the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast at Las Guitarras on Main Street with the blowing of the Shofar , worship led by Cross Mountain Church, a message from Mayor Frank Ritchie, and prayers from local pastors.  Then at 11:45 in Main Plaza First Baptist Church will lead in praise and worship, Senator Donna Campbell will read the Governors Proclamation, Commissioner Andra Wisian will pray for the county, Sheriff Al Auxier will pray for First Responders, with more local leaders and teachers praying for our churches, nonprofits, our kids, and our businesses.  You can see all the details and get tickets for the breakfast at Boerneprays.org.

 

Early voting for Fair Oaks Ranch’s general election begins on Monday in the Public Safety Training Room of the Police Station. The final day to vote is May 2nd, and there are two City Council seats up for grabs. Currently only Keith Rhoden is running for Seat 2, while Jonathan Swarek and Matthew Reigelsperger will duke it out for Seat 6. 

 

Our friend Chris over at the Boerne Life did some boots on the ground reporting yesterday to give us the inside scoop on Buc-ees with no visible construction happening right now. City of Boerne Director of Communications Chris Shadrock says that Buc-ee’s has submitted permits for the City to review, and that leaders are also working with the company on bidding for public infrastructure.

We talked about Geneva tennis being at state yesterday… well they had quite an outing. The girls become state champions after a dominating performance. The boys finished in 2nd place in rankings, capping off a great season for Tennis. Congrats to all the athletes who participated and a well-deserved finish. 

The Charger boys golf team also qualified for state in 3rd place, right behind Smithson Valley and McAllen Memorial. So they will be playing for state gold in a few days time. 

Sticking with the golf theme, the RBC Heritage will tee off from South Carolina this weekend. Among those in the field is Justin Thomas who won in 2025. The purse is $20 million and it all begins tomorrow. 

And the Spurs know who their first round opponent is- the Portland Trailblazers after Portland defeated the Phoenix Suns last night. So Round 1 will begin Sunday at 8 in San Antonio.

It’s Tuesday April 14th. 

 

And it was on this date in 1912 when the unsinkable RMS Titanic sunk.   The last living survivor Millvina Dean from England was the youngest passenger on board.  She died at the age of 97 in 2009.  She had no memory of the event because she was only 9 weeks old.

And a special Happy Birthday to Annie Walther over at Crestmont Private Wealth, William Rice and Alessandra Soltis.

 

Bandera County has declared Highway 46 as inadequate by elected leaders due to a high number of deaths and crashes. At last week’s commissioner's court meeting, County Judge Richard Evans and the board unanimously approved a resolution demanding that TxDOT formally respond with a definitive timeline to make safety improvements to the road.  In the last 10 years, there have been well over 500 crashes, ending in 13 deaths and 44 injuries, with more than half of the fatalities caused by head on collisions. TxDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Serold says that safety is the organization's top priority, and that they will continue to work with local officials to improve Highway 46. 

 

Yesterday morning was Miss Constance’s last day at the Patrick Heath Public Library after more than 20 years. She first began as a youth services assistant but quickly became a staple in the kid’s department with her weekly story time. Hundreds gathered for her retirement party-students and parents left heartfelt messages about her legacy and impact on the community.  But one thing that won’t come to an end is her reading to your kids every Saturday morning at 7:45 here on Boerne Radio.

 

And the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees were announced yesterday, with a few Boerne Radio favorites featured on the list. On November 14th, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan will be inducted. 

 

And in another Hall of Fame, congrats to Boerne Radio’s Production Manager Roland Ruiz who got the call that he will be inducted into the San Antonio Radio Hall of Fame.   Not only do you hear Roland’s voice on Boerne Radio, you hear him as the arena announcer for your San Antonio Spurs, and stadium announcer for the San Antonio Missions.  Congratulations Roland - we’re so very proud of you.
