Geneva Tennis at state dominated, as the girls team is your 4A TAPPS State Champion! The season these athletes have had… an amazing finish to this season. And it gets better because two doubles teams were runners-up. For the girls, Mary Simpson and Siena Svendsen… and for the boys, Alex Malouf and Teagan Fikes. A big congratulations to this Geneva program on an amazing year. 

Final games of the year for Boerne ISD softball are tonight as both teams have been eliminated from playoff contention. Boerne High will face New Braunfels on the road and Champion will be in Kerrville to take on Tivy. Both games begin at 7.

An update from the RBC Heritage- Ludvig Åberg of Sweden leads after day 1 with a score of -8.

It’s Friday, April 17th.

And born on this day in 1937 was Daffy Duck, who made his first appearance in Porky’s Duck Hunt. In the original episode, Daffy had a less pronounced lisp than what we know today, and looked a lot more like an actual duck. Mel Blanc voiced the character until 1989, a total of 52 years.

Boerne City Park was filled with around 300 homeschool students from across San Antonio and the Hill Country under the umbrella called Boerne Classical Conversations that hosted its annual Field Day. Kids took part in games and activities focused on teamwork and friendly competition. The Christ-centered program, founded in 2015, emphasizes parent-led education and community. Organizers say the event highlighted strong family involvement and a shared commitment to student growth.

The City of Boerne also gave an update yesterday on the progress being made on Northside Community Park. The basketball pavilion is now up, and stone column work is underway. Concrete foundations have been poured for 3 future restroom facilities, and crews are working on stormwater and low-impact development infrastructure to support the park long term. 

 

Boerne Radio is proud to partner with Cavender Chevrolet in support of the 33rd Annual Texas Corvette Association Open Car Show in Main Plaza - the fun starts with a meet and greet at 5:30 in the gazebo as a sea of cool cars roll into Boerne…about 450 this year.  It all benefits SJRC Texas - helping kids through St. Jude.  We’ll see you there.

 

Last week the Cibolo Center for Conservation raised funds in the name of protecting water. Their sponsors, Culligan and the 2 Birds Nerds, matched every single donation made to the organization. Yesterday they revealed that their goal was surpassed with a total of $60,109.34.

And by the Cibolo Center for Conservation, where every day is Earth Day but on Saturday, April 25 they are hosting an Earth Day Scavenger Hunt all over the trails of the Cibolo Nature Center and Herff Farm to complement the global City Nature Challenge.  There’s no charge, no rsvp required, bring the family, and discover all the nature in our own back yard at the Cibolo.  All the details at cibolo.org.

It’s Thursday April 16th. 

 

And on this date in 1962 Walter Cronkite took his post where he became America’s most trusted man when he began anchoring the CBS Evening News.  He followed Doug Edwards.

 

And happy Boerne Radio birthday to Paula of Paula VM Photography, and Cali Redd Green.

 

The Geneva School of Boerne has had quite the month…on top of the girl’s tennis team winning the state tournament, and the boys 2nd in state, Geneva’s art students earned second overall in State against 26 schools at the TAPPS 4A Competition in Waco. Students submitted artwork in several different categories and events and participated in an on-site drawing competition. One standout student, Megan Luffy, placed 9 times in 9 different categories, and even took silver in her Senior Portfolio. 

 

And the Boerne ISD robotics team The Rocketeers, which comprises students from both Champion and Boerne High schools, is heading to the State Robotics competition.  They are one of 90 teams heading to Houston, and if and when they advance, they will compete against teams from all over the world. According to team captain Lucas Romero, the FIRST organization assigns teams a game for their potential robots to play in, and they need to optimize their machines to win. This year the game was basketball, so in six weeks, the Rocketeers engineered a machine to accurately shoot as many balls as possible into a hoop. Go Boerne, Go Champion.

 

This week, City Council recognized our outstanding Electric and Gas Departments for earning top safety honors that reflect their dedication to excellence and service. The Electric Department received the 2025 American Public Power Association Safety Award of Excellence with the highest Diamond designation, while the Gas Department earned a perfect score during its annual Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool safety and reliability assessment.

 

There was an electrical issue on Dietz Elkhorn in Fair Oaks Ranch yesterday that still needs to be resolved, so the road will remain closed today between No Le Hace Drive and Saddle Song.
