On this date 41 years ago in 1985 the LIVE AID concerts were broadcast from Philadelphia and London with 1.5 billion viewers around the world. Highlights include U2’s 2 song set, the first reunion of Plant and Page since the death of John Bonham, Phil Collins playing both gigs via a ride on the Concorde, Queen stealing the show…and how’s this for iconic bookends with Paul McCartney singing Let It Be and hard to believe that in context was just 21 years after another important TV moment when the Beatles sang All My Loving on Ed Sullivan in 1964.
The Boerne Star reported on Governor Abbott’s call to ban the building of new data centers in rural areas over the weekend. Opposition to their construction has been growing across the state due to the use of electricity and water, as well as their generation of noise. 62% of rural Texans support Abbott’s initiative to ban data centers according to the University of Texas- in order to build, the Governor says they need to bring their own money, power and reuse their own water.
The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees was just recognized as the 2026 Region 20 School Board of the Year. They were chosen for their unwavering commitment to student success, visionary leadership, and dedication to serving its community. Now the board will advance to compete in the Texas Association of School Administrators State Competition.
There are a few new educators joining Comfort and Boerne school districts this fall. Comfort High hired Jennifer Lee as the new volleyball coach to replace Norma Viera after 8 years leading the team. Adam Gutierrez has joined Boerne ISD as the new Director of Career and Technical Education after moving from the same position at Del Valle ISD. Gutierrez will oversee programs that prepare students for college, careers, military service and industry certifications while strengthening partnerships with local businesses and higher education institutions.
Tomorrow the Boerne Chamber will be cutting the ribbon a couple of times…they will be there at Das Greenhaus celebrating with Twisted Lizard Mercantile at 11:30 and then at 1:30 back at the Chamber it’s Emma Jo Creative. On Thursday its the 3rd anniversary for Hummingbird Assisted Living and Memory Care on Flint Rock Drive at 11:30.
