The run to the state tournament might have gotten cut short in the final game for Geneva Volleyball- but their players are being recognized with All-State Tournament Honors. The 4 players mentioned on the team are Kate Friesenhahn, Lily Flora, Emerson Myrick, and Ella Grace Owens. #TalonsUp.

For another year, some of the best water polo coaches in the region are receiving their flowers as well. Champion Water Polo’s Coach Slay is your Region 8 Coach of the Year and Coach Gillette is the Assistant Coach of the Year! This program meets expectations every year, in part due to these two. #HoovesUp.

Tonight here on Boerne Radio- round 2 of the high school football playoffs as your Boerne Greyhounds take a drive to Laredo to battle Edcouch-Elsa who is 9-2… it should be a fun one, and we will have that game for you here on Boerne Radio starting at 6:30 with pregame. It’s Thursday November 21st. 

It was on this date in 1980, 78 million people watched an attempted murderer revealed on television.  It was a scheming sister-in-law and mistress named Kristin who shot JR on the hit prime time drama…Dallas.

In the 2023 Citizen Survey, the City of Boerne reported mobility and transportation improvements are at the top of the list. And so the list is out…here’s what’s cooking for 2025.   

A new roundabout at Johns Road and School Street.

Major overhauls of West Blanco Road, West Kronkosky Street, and Parkway Drive. 

Plus a wider Adler Road.   The City of Boerne has also secured several federal grants for roadway construction and increased their Streets Department budget over 500% in the last 7 years to $886,000.

With the holidays practically here, Boerne Police Chief Steve Perez has some safety tips when you’re out shopping. First, the obvious, hide your things, lock the door and take your keys. Second, if you are shopping online and someone asks for you to pay with a gift card, its a scam! Here’s a good one, if you plan on going out of town, you can sign up to be on the Boerne Police Departments’ House watch program, where your house will be checked out by Police daily to make sure there is no suspicious activity. And finally, if you can, make sure to have your packages delivered to a safe location, or be home when the mail is dropped off. Criminals might be driving around looking to steal packages, so do your best to not make it an option for them. 

And Christmas came a little early for the Boerne ISD Culinary Program.  Compadres Hill County Cocina’s Chef Mark Sierra presented a check for $5000 towards a scholarship for the team that served at the recent Purple Heart Project Gala

We start with the Geneva Lady Eagle Basketball Team with a 69-41 win over Veterans Memorial.  Next up is the Cornerstone Tournament in San Antonio.   

The Geneva Boys Soccer team had a tough loss on the road again San Antonio Christian 7-1. 

The Lady Greyhounds welcomed Burbank to Boerne for some basketball, and get this final score…the Hounds dropped 80 - the Bulldogs: 19.   The Boerne Boys also won their game on the road at Marshall High School - 53-49.

The San Antonio Spurs took on Oklahoma City and went on a big run in the 3rd quarter starting the 4th quarter with a 16 point lead, and held on to win 110 to 104.  They take on the Utah Jazz again this Thursday night…but I’m sorry you’re going to have to miss that game because Boerne Radio will be carrying round 2 of the high school playoffs as they take on 9-2 Edcouch-Elsa High School in Larado’ Shirley Field.  Pregame show at 6:30 with a 7pm kickoff.

Boerne Radio - Sports - November 20, 2024

It’s Wednesday November 20th. 

It was on this day in 1789 that the first of the thirteen colonies ratified the Bill of Rights. New Jersey was the first state to accept the first 10 amendments written within the U.S. constitution. At the time, there were 12 articles listed but 2 didn’t pass...and those ten fundamental freedoms of all American citizens still stand to this day. 

After the inaugural Das Festival of Kendall at Random last Father’s Day weekend, the team is looking to start prepping for the next one, but Random closed… Well, the Das Festival Kendall Team announced yesterday that, with the endorsement of Mayor Frank Richie and the City of Boerne, the festival in 2025 will be held in Main Plaza. They plan on starting with a parade down Main Street followed by a 2-day celebration smack dab in the middle of Boerne.  Dachshund races, Stein holding, watermelon eating, wheelbarrow races, sacks races, egg tossing…and probably some food and beer will be around.   

And in music news, for Tom Petty fans, on November 29th the official bootleg from a December 1982 concert in Edinburgh Scottland will be released, Ringo has a new country album coming out in January called Look Up produced by T-Bone Burnette, with several songs with Billy Strings, and a song we’re already playing with Alison Krauss called Thankful.  And in sad news two of the drummers from different eras of the Bee Gees have died within just days of one another. Original member Colin Peterson died two days ago at the age of 78, and Dennis Byron died on the 14th. The only remaining original member of the band is Barry Gibb, who is 78.
