Let’s take you back to Friday as Champion Volleyball completed a program sweep- freshman, JV, and Varsity did not lose a single set to Harlandale. Their record stands at 22-5 overall.

A wild week 2 of college football took place: UTSA went toe-to-toe with Texas State, and the Roadrunners pulled it out, 31-26. Texas A&M defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils at home, 48-20. Texas Tech beat Oregon State, 35-24. And the game of the year so far for the UT Longhorns: late effort against the best team, Ohio State, allowed them to win 24-23 in Austin to go 2-0. In the new AP Poll, UT sits as the #1 team. This Saturday, UTSA heads to Austin as the big brother-little brother rivalry continues. That game will kickoff at 7:30. 

So Boerne ISD football teams are undefeated, Geneva football is undefeated, most Texas college teams are undefeated, but are the two NFL teams undefeated after week? - Texans hung in with Buffalo, but would lose 36-31. And the Cowboys… lost game one to the Giants 28-20, as Dallas arguably had a very sloppy game on both sides of the ball. So we almost had a perfect weekend of football! Week two games for the NFL teams will occur next Sunday.

It’s Monday September 14th. 

 

And on this day in Texas history, back in 1866, Texas’ first producing oil well came in near Nacogdoches — decades before Spindletop would turn Texas into an oil powerhouse. 

 

It was another big weekend in downtown Boerne as the 100 Club of Kendall County hosted the 6th Annual Tug the Truck Saturday morning at Black Rifle Coffee Company. Teams put some serious muscle behind a Boerne fire truck, pulling it 40 feet against the clock, while three-person teams took on the Police Car Push. The morning also included the Guns versus Hoses Tug of War, Drag the Dummy competition, vendors and raffles. New this year were separate competition categories for community teams and first responders. Most importantly, proceeds from the event support the men and women who serve as Kendall County’s first responders and their families.

The big winning team was from 24/7 Fitness - they brought home 1st place in Tugging the Truck and 1st Place for Overall Best Times.

And tomorrow, the Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center hosts its annual fundraising gala, “Life Magnified,” at the Cana Ballroom in Boerne.

Guests can attend either a luncheon from 11:30 to 1 or dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. The program will highlight the impact the center is making throughout the Texas Hill Country, and funds raised help keep its services free for local families.

The Hill Country Pregnancy Care Center has served area families since 1987, providing free and confidential pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, prenatal vitamins, STI testing and treatment, along with prenatal, childbirth and parenting classes. They also offer material assistance for families, fatherhood programs, school and community education, and support for women seeking healing after an abortion.

The center now serves families through locations in Boerne, Comfort and Leon Springs, and its services are available without an income qualification.

There is no cost to attend and tables fill up quickly.

Boerne Radio Coaches Show: Champion Band Director Jason Younts Live from 28 Songs Brew House & Kitchen on Boerne Radio 103.9 FM.

Host Esteban Serrano interviews Boerne Champion band director Jason Younts about how the marching show is planned starting the prior January, summer band structure, vertical alignment with middle schools, welcoming new students, heat safety and UIL wet-bulb procedures, and the program’s focus on culture, kindness, work ethic, and skill-building. Yonts previews Champion’s 2024 competition show “A Moment in Time,” featuring a photo-frame theme and music including classical selections, Ben Folds, and OneRepublic, with a larger color guard and contest season beginning in October. Serrano then talks with Geneva head football coach Adam Foran about the Eagles’ 3-0 start, offensive efficiency, complementary football, team-first culture, key players, the TMI win and late run-heavy closing drive, and preparing for Shiner St. Paul and a competitive district slate.

Electrical storms played a big part in the high school football scene last night. First off, the news breaks that lightning has delayed Champion and Cedar Creek by 30 minutes… okay so to Davenport we go… Greyhounds take the early lead including recording a safety, so it’s 16-0. Davenport moved quickly, and by the half it was Boerne in front 23-14. In the second half, both teams would score… make it 30-21 Boerne in front. Until the 1:12 mark in the third, lightning caused a delay, and that delay would turn into a cancellation. Boerne won in three quarters, 30-21… but Zach Dickson and I never announced our player of the game last night… so first right here on Boerne Radio Sports… your Proud Pops player of the game is the running back, #18, Callan Combs. 

Champion eventually resumed… but it was all Chargers. Final was 55-0 in favor of Boerne Champion. Caleb Farias was the player of the game there with 3 TDs. He even caught up with the Boerne Star Sports Editor Kerry Barboza after the game.

Geneva shutout Shiner St. Paul 50-0, and Ingram Moore defeats Comfort, 34-6.

10-ranked A&M faces Arizona St at 11 in the Aggies’ home opener

Rice will play #3 Notre Dame at 2:30

13-ranked Texas Tech takes on Oregon State at 6:30

And the marquee game of the week is #1 Ohio State in Austin taking on #4 Texas. 

And tomorrow as the first Sunday of NFL kicks off: 

The Texans take on the Bills at noon

And the Cowboys head to East Rutherford to face the Giants on Sunday Night Football at 7:20.
