A time capsule must have taken this world back to 1999 because your San Antonio Spurs are back in the NBA Finals and will go to battle against the New York Knicks. They defeated Oklahoma City in game 7 on Saturday, 111-103, and it’s the first time in 12 years they reached the Finals. So, the Spurs and Knicks matchup in ‘99 was 27 years ago… and the Spurs’ starting lineup was Avery Johnson, Sean Elliott, Mario Elie, Tim Duncan, and David Robinson. The Knicks had players such as Allan Houston, Larry Johnson, Latrell Sprewell, and Patrick Ewing who was injured. Spurs took that series in only 5 games.

Looking ahead to the matchup, the Spurs are heavy favorites to win the series, and they have the home-court advantage in this series. If you recall, the NBA Cup championship resulted in the Knicks beating the Spurs in the championship game. This Finals will not be easy for San Antonio. The Knicks have not lost a game since April 23 when the playoffs began, so the rest and momentum of an amazing playoff run proceeds them at the moment. I mean the Spurs have to feel good too after that game 7- Dylan Harper, De’Aaron Fox, Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, Devin Vassell, and Luke Kornet, who made a huge game-saving block towards the end to nearly put the dagger in the game. Among others, they did what they needed to do, and had a perfect game. Wemby was the Western Conference MVP.

Game 1 of the NBA Finals is Wednesday from the Frost Bank Center at 7:30 and will air on ABC. And make sure you listen out before the game for Boerne Radio’s Roland Ruiz as he introduces both teams’ starting lineups on the broadcast.

The Charles Schwab Classic ended in a very tight fight for the top, as Russell Henley of the United States ultimately won the tournament Sunday. What helped him was a birdie on hole 1 which was a par 5. He finished -12.
