A lot to get to this Monday- let’s start with volleyball as all three schools were in tournaments. For Geneva, they won 2 out of their 5 games in Wimberley- defeating Liberty in a sweep and Round Rock Christian in 3 sets.
Champion in Abilene for the Bev Ball Classic went 3 for 5 in their games, which was enough to earn them 2nd place all weekend. Brielle Boothe made the all-tournament team, while Brady Cooksey and Finley Weikle were the best setter and hitter.
The Greyhounds at the Northside/Northeast Tournament swept Madison, and then Laredo United. They took a 2-1 loss to Smithson Valley, and then swept Navarro to close out the weekend. They’re in action Tuesday against Creek View.
For Champion Water Polo- they were at the Northside Waterpalooza tournament this past weekend. The girls ended up going 3-3, and the boys went 4-2, as they look ahead to the Texas Cup this upcoming weekend.
Boerne Little League is adjusting well to Williamsport, and even made friends with the Phenix City LL team from Alabama while keeping their faith- on Sunday, Jared Patrick, dad to Carson, led a Chapel service as both teams joined in. They even took a conjoined picture to document the moment - how special!
Today marks 27 days away from the Dallas Cowboys’ opening game on Sep. 13… and the Cowboys and Pro-Bowl Linebacker Von Miller have agreed to a one-year deal on Sunday. He’s a native Texan, went to DeSoto, and Texas A&M. This is quite a big deal as the veteran joins a growing Cowboys defense.
Swinging over to golf now, Scottie Scheffler is the number-one golfer in the world, and wins by 8 strokes in the very important FedEx St. Jude Cup in Memphis, Tennessee on Sunday - a date that Memphis’ favorite son, Elvis Presley, passed away 49 years ago. The King of Golf is still Scottie, with the best year of his career. He is now the 3rd-youngest with 21 wins, behind Tiger Woods and Jack Nicholas. He started Sunday with a 2-stroke lead over Sam Burns, who had a meltdown and finished tied for 3rd, shooting 3 over with a 73. The next PGA tournament is the BMW Championship - the 2nd event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs featuring the top 50 players, and tees off this Thursday in St. Louis, Missouri. (Story by Baron Wiley)
