Big weekend for Geneva track and field at their meet- every individual athlete placed 5th or higher in their competition, and 7 personal records were set. Among these, 1 bronze medal, 3 silver, and 3 gold. What a weekend. 

It doesn’t end there for the Eagles- Peyton Eiland from girls soccer earned a TAPPS 4A 1st-Team all state award, and quarterback Caleb Quitadamo is getting some attention with an offer for McPherson College over the weekend.

Kristin Cantu will be the new Champion Tennis coach, per a post from the athletics page. She has served the past 9 years as the assistant coach. She said in a quote she is excited to grow the program and “inspire” the next generation of athletes. 

Rory Mcilroy wins the Masters after a strong start and close call the final two days. He shot a -12, and Scotte Scheffler came in 2nd with -11. Mcilroy is a back-to-back champion and joins a group of select few who have accomplished the feat. 

And the Spurs have officially completed their regular season falling to Denver on Sunday. They have the 2nd seed in the west, and the play-in tournament is very crucial this week folks. Portland and Phoenix will play each other, and that winner will face San Antonio on Sunday in game 1 in round 1 of the playoffs… man does it feel good to say that again.

Boerne Radio Sports - Monday, April 13, 2026

It’s Monday April 13th.

 

And it was on this date in 1861 the Civil War began when the Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina.  The war had several names depending on which side you were on.  After the war in the South it was called The War Between the States.  Northern historians referred to it as the War of the Rebellion and Great Rebellion.  Even into the 20th Century, the Confederate term was War for Southern Independence, but it fell out of use.  On border states it was called The Brother’s War.

If you’ve made the drive out to Tapatio Springs on Johns Road in the last 6 months you’ve seen the sign on the left side that says coming soon: Jubilee Villas Living and Memory Care, well tomorrow morning at 11:30 is the groundbreaking ceremony.  Brothers Elliott and Dalton are heading the project and they say they want their residents to feel like they are living in a big custom home. 

 

Alright scam alert season is high - Lt. Kevin Klaerner of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office called me on Friday and said they had received about 15 calls from Boerne Residents in a panic about paying fines for failing to appear for jury service…and they prey on our senior citizens.  Here’s Deputy Sheriff Michael from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Battle of the Badges took place on Saturday in Main Plaza during Market Days, and the first responder getting the most donations for Love Kendall County Kids came down to both Police Chief Steve Perez and Fire Chief Manny Casarez where the Fire Chief took the crown, but Chief Perez took one for the team as well. Our friends at Tootie Pie graciously donated their delicious pies to get smashed in the rivaling department heads face, but the spectacle was all for a good cause. 

 

It is the 2nd week of the month so that means it’s Bulky Item and brush collection week - your trash day is the day to put out the big stuff too big for the can.  If its brush make sure it’s chopped and tied up.

And if today is your birthday, you share it with Al Green who turns 80 today, and born 283 years ago today was the 3rd President of the United States…can you name him?  He was the author of the Declaration of Independence - Thomas Jefferson.  And right here in Boerne we say happy birthday to Luke Kersh over at DeVino Cellars, Margaret Garza, Lora Carlisle, and Ms. Celebrations Gift Services herself Stephani Risinger…so what do you get the girl who’s business is to give gifts.  A Happy Birthday on the radio is what you get.

On Bernie Radio 103.9 FM, host Baron Wiley announces The Choir’s return to Texas for a Friday, April 17 show at Sam’s Burger Joint in San Antonio, with tickets and a giveaway available via boerneradio.godaddy.com. Etheridge, a Boerne ISD graduate and business owner running for Boerne ISD school board Place 7.  He highlights involvement with district programs including welding, Incubator EDU mentoring, and student internships, and argues that teacher pay has fallen from above the Texas average to $4,200 below it while administrator pay has risen about 40%.

He says happy teachers drive student success, supports career and technical education as a viable first-choice path, and emphasizes school safety and coordination with local first responders. Etheridge opposes tax increases, criticizes the prior VATRE, promises never to vote for a tax hike, supports a two-term limit, and promotes voting dates (early voting April 20; election day May 2) and his website, Michael4BISD.com.
