It’s Monday April 13th.
And it was on this date in 1861 the Civil War began when the Confederacy fired on Fort Sumter in South Carolina. The war had several names depending on which side you were on. After the war in the South it was called The War Between the States. Northern historians referred to it as the War of the Rebellion and Great Rebellion. Even into the 20th Century, the Confederate term was War for Southern Independence, but it fell out of use. On border states it was called The Brother’s War.

Alright scam alert season is high - Lt. Kevin Klaerner of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office called me on Friday and said they had received about 15 calls from Boerne Residents in a panic about paying fines for failing to appear for jury service…and they prey on our senior citizens. Battle of the Badges took place on Saturday in Main Plaza during Market Days, and the first responder getting the most donations for Love Kendall County Kids came down to both Police Chief Steve Perez and Fire Chief Manny Casarez where the Fire Chief took the crown, but Chief Perez took one for the team as well. Our friends at Tootie Pie graciously donated their delicious pies to get smashed in the rivaling department heads face, but the spectacle was all for a good cause.
It is the 2nd week of the month so that means it’s Bulky Item and brush collection week - your trash day is the day to put out the big stuff too big for the can. If its brush make sure it’s chopped and tied up.
