Boerne Little League, the Texas West Champions, and playing under the temporary name Texas West faced off in game 1 of the Waco Regional tournament against Texas East. While the hitting column was close on both sides, the score wouldn’t be. East cashed in 10 runs while West only managed to get 3 across the plate… and so that rounds out your final score 10-3. It’s double elimination, so no need to panic just yet, but Saturday’s second game for them now becomes a must-win. 

Volleyball season is now in full swing as Geneva will actually begin with a scrimmage tonight. They will play comfort. Boerne High will scrimmage Judson tonight in Converse, Texas… and Champion will head to Davenport in San Antonio to scrimmage them. 

In golf, the Wyndham is currently taking place this weekend  in Greensboro, North Carolina. Beau Hossler from the US escapes round 1 with a score of -9. Sahith Theegala and Ben James are currently tied for second with a score of -8.

It’s Monday August 24th.

 

It was on this date in 1932 Amelia Earhart flew nonstop from Coast to Coast, becoming the first woman to do so in a whopping 19 hrs and 5 minutes, Amelia flew from LA to Newark. Also on this date, the waffle iron earned its patent in 1869 probably by a dad.

And today we say happy birthday to Amber Clark and Delise Baker here in Boerne.  They share their birthday with Mason Williams who is 88 today.  He’s famous for his instrumental track Classical Gas, he was also a writer for Saturday Night Live…and he was born in Abilene, Texas.

And with baseball on everyone’s mind in Boerne, it was on this date in 1989 that baseball legend Pete Rose was banned for life from baseball.  However Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred removed him from the permanently ineligible list from the National Baseball Hall of Fame.  He will be first up for consideration in December of 2027.

 

So here’s the deal…The Boerne Little League Team has a path.  And Manager Greg Yost says this team knows something about bouncing back.

Remember, Boerne also lost its first game at the Southwest Regional before fighting all the way back to win the championship.

It all starts at 1:00 today as Prime Time Sports Cardz presents our pre-game show LIVE from 28 Songs…a day they are normally closed, but they are opening up just for this…2pm is the first pitch…if they win, they play Tuesday night at 6.  If they win Wednesday they play at 6 again, if they win they play Thursday, and if they win on Thursday then the US Championship game is on Saturday.  Easy right?   Esteban Serrano and Aaron Powers will be at 28 Songs, KENS5 TV will be there as well so get in early and get on TV, and say hi to Shan Wiley - she’ll be keeping your drinks filled up.  So meet us at 28 Songs and cheer on our Boerne Little League Team.

 

Both Boerne High School and Champion High School have been named among the best high schools in America by U.S. News and World Report.  Champion ranks 157th in Texas and 1,211th nationally, while Boerne High comes in at 210th in Texas and 1,664th in the nation.  The rankings look at college readiness, graduation rates, state testing and the depth of college-level coursework.  There are roughly 2300 High Schools in Texas.

Boerne ISD also continues to boast a graduation rate above 99 percent.

Some Bergheim homeowners could see an insurance benefit thanks to improvements at the Bergheim Volunteer Fire Department. The department’s fire protection rating has jumped from an ISO 8 to a 4/4X, reflecting years of investment in training, equipment, staffing, water supply and emergency communications. The rating can be a factor in determining property insurance premiums. Residents served by Bergheim VFD are encouraged to contact their insurance company to see if the improved rating could lower their costs. 

 

Kendall County residents are being urged to stay wildfire-aware as Texas moves into the late-summer fire season. The Texas A&M Forest Service reports increased wildfire activity as hot, dry weather quickly dries vegetation. Residents should avoid activities that create sparks, keep vehicles off dry grass, clear combustible materials from around homes, and check local burn restrictions. Officials also recommend having multiple ways to receive emergency alerts and being ready to evacuate if necessary. As of April 7th there is no burn ban, but the Commissioner's Court could reinstate it at any time. 

 

And it’s another hot one…upper 90s for the next few days…next chance for rain is on Thursday.

6500 teams- that is approximately how many US-based Little League All-Star teams begin their journey for the World Series around June. Only 12 get to represent in Williamsport every year-  making the odds 0.002% of accomplishing the feat. Boerne Little League has gotten two teams in three years to go… so this 2026 team is there for a reason. They play in the elimination bracket against Ohio today at 2pm to stay alive in the World Series. Champion Charger Volleyball was at the Pieper Warrior Showcase this weekend and the team lived up to the name of the event- they showcased how dominant they are. They went 6-0 and were the champions of the tournament- Finley Wiekle was your tournament MVP, while Hannah Perez and Brielle Boothe made the all-tournament team. And speaking of Ms. Brielle Boothe, she recorded 1,000 career digs this past week- a huge congratulations. 

 

Boerne High volleyball finished in the top three at the SAISD Tournament. Lauren Magnus earned an all-tournament award when it was all said and done. 

 

Champion Water Polo teams competed against the best in the Girls and Boys Texas Cup. The boys won 5 out of their 6 games, and Jackson Hankins on the team recorded his 100th save… which is hard to do. Congrats on their success this past weekend. 

 

In the Big Leagues, the push is on for the playoffs. Houston and Texas are now tied for the division title spot in the AL West at 65-66, trading wins and losses with respective opponents this past week. Houston is off tonight, but the Rangers head to Chi Town to play the White Sox. 

 

Wyndham Clark started the day with a 5-stroke lead going into the final round of the BMW Championship in St. Louis yesterday, gets paired up with Rory McIlroy, and on the first hole, Clark gets a bogey, and Rory gets a birdie…IT’S ON!  Rory birdies on 8, and now he’s within 2. Clark bogies again, and Rory birdies on 11 - it’s all tied and the wheels are coming off for Clark…or are they?  The first birdie of the day comes on 16 for Clark; he birdies 17, and then 18!  And Wyndham Clark is the winner of the BMW Championship. This Thursday begins the TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, the final FedEx Playoffs event of the season.
