Headlines: Geneva volleyball releases season schedule / Geneva Tennis takes 10-9 win over Friendswood / Rangers and Astros back in action tonight

Geneva Volleyball released their schedule yesterday- the season starts Monday officially when they head downtown San Antonio to take on Providence. Games will start at 4:30 starting with JV and heading down to varsity at 6:30. Their first home game will be the following Monday, the 19th against Johnson City. 

Greyhound Tennis started the new season off right winning 10-9 over Friendswood. The NISD Gold Tournament starts today and the Hounds are a part of that as well - they’ll be busy for sure this weekend! 

After a day off, Texas and Houston are back at it tonight. The Astros will be in New York to take on the Yankees at 6:05, and the Rangers host the Phillies at 7:05. Both series will run through Sunday.

He was the shortest President standing at 5 foot 4…and his portrait graces the 5000 dollar bill which was last printed in 1934.  One today could be worth well over thirty thousand dollars.

Yesterday’s high was 90, today’s high is 53 as we started off in the mid 30s this morning, and back to the 80s and lots of sun on Thursday.  We are under a Red Flag Warning until 8 tonight - Fire Marshall Brady Constatine reminds you that outdoor burning is strictly prohibited. 

 

Gas prices are up as you know, so where is the cheapest?   As of last night, the Shell on Blanco boasted just 3.19 a gallon - VP Racing Fuels also had the same price (that’s the Short Stop on North Main between Bella Sera and Bella Sera. For the rest of the city, the range seems to be between 3.35 and 3.39, so pick your poison.  The cheapest gas in Texas is in Mineral Wells at $2.39 a gallon. 

 

The Boerne Chamber of Commerce is hosting a record breaking 7 ribbon cuttings this week, so here are the details. Lee’s Massage and Head Spa is kicking off the week with their celebration on Tuesday at 11:30, followed by Story of Us Therapy at 1:30. Then on Wednesday is the one year anniversary celebration of Rise Tech Elevators at 1:30. Thursday has three  -the first is for Celebrations Gift Service at 11:30, followed by Echo Physical Therapy and Athletics at 1:30. Inside 9 Golf and Social Club will be at 4. Finally, Selah Cafe is hosting their grand opening on Friday with the Chamber from 11:30 to noon. 

 

The Cibolo Center for Conservation is looking for volunteers! Whether it’s counting Monarch butterfly eggs and larvae, helping clean up the trails, or running the farmer’s market, there’s room for you. Sign up at cibolo.org/volunteer.

Soccer playoffs are here and we now know when, where, and who, the Boerne Champion boys will face in round 1: WHEN: This Thursday at 7:30. WHERE: Bob Shelton Stadium in Buda. AGAINST WHO?: Liberty Hill. 

The March Madness fields of 68 for both the men and women were revealed yesterday as for the next three weeks, prepare for weekends of continuous college basketball. For the men’s tournament, a total of 7 schools from the Lone Star State made the field with 3 having to play an extra game this week to seed into the main tournament. We’ll break it down as we progress in the week, but the 7 schools are TCU, Prairie View A&M, Texas A&M, Houston, UT Austin, Texas Tech, and SMU. 

For the women, a total of 5 schools made it into the field- TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech, UT Austin, and the UTSA women are going dancing. Great news for Roadrunner fans. Unfortunately, they will play the best team in women’s college basketball- UConn. A 16 beating a 1 in the women’s tournament has only ever happened once in history… you never know, UTSA could be number two. Stay optimistic!
