Thursday 8/7

This is Boerne Radio Sports.

It really did feel like sports were back in full swing… we got Champion water polo back today after opening practices, a Geneva runner won a silver medal on the same day the cross country schedule dropped, and another Geneva Eagle dominated a golf tournament. I mean what is happening?!

Champion Water Polo will be at the Alamo Heights Kick Off consisting of Alamo Heights and some schools from the Northside Independent School District. The girls are in a match at 10 this morning and the boys at 11. The first of a few opening tournaments this month.

Brady Chandler from Geneva finished the National Junior Olympic Games with a silver medal and is ranked number 8th in the nation. Way to represent Geneva, Brady! Speaking of ‘representation,’ the Eagles will be representing at 3 consecutive meets as the cross country season begins. It all starts August 23rd at the St. Mary’s Hall Invitational.

Geneva golfer Jace Hulett tied for 2nd place with two other men in the Texas Junior Amateur Tournament. The three golfers, including Hulett, all shot a 209 by the end of the 3-day tournament at Horseshoe Bay.

Manu Ginobili will be throwing out the first pitch Saturday at the San Antonio Missions game. He jokingly said on social media that it’s his first time ever throwing a baseball and hopes he can at least hit the zip code, if not the strike zone. It is the Hill Country relief game as players will be wearing jerseys of the schools impacted by the floods in Kerrville back on July 4th. To make it even more special, Manu will throw the pitch to a student athlete from one of the schools. It was also announced yesterday that Saturday at the Padres-Red Sox game in San Diego on Saturday that both the teams, Boston and San Diego, would wear those same jerseys of the Hill Country schools affected during their batting practice. The jerseys will then be auctioned off to raise money for the relief fund. The Missions are the Double-A (AA) affiliate of the Padres.
