That’s action from the first quarter with the call by Boerne Radio’s Esteban Serrano - The Greyhounds enter 5A playing Pieper and take that 7-0 lead in their first possession taking over 3 minutes off the clock and then Pieper got the ball for the first time…

Both teams scored 3 touchdowns in the first half, but the score was 21-18 because Pieper went for 2 and failed or the kick got tipped.

In the second half Boerne went up by 9 points in the 4th with some huge defensive stands - but Pieper - a throwing team kept it on the ground and scored quickly again - then they recovered a fumble and scored again.   Heartbreaker - and very wonky funky ending - I’m not saying home cooking - but they called the game with time still left on the clock - and score that didn’t match what happened…final score 38-36 - bottom line our Boerne Greyhounds can compete in 5A - they play Laredo next week…



 And Esteban will be back on the air here on Boerne Radio tonight as do it again with the Chargers…

It’s Friday August 30th. 



Today in Texas history-the founding of Houston. Just 9 days after General Sam Houston had won Texas its independence in 1836, 2 brothers named a potential town after him. Augustus and John Allen bought 6,642 acres for a buck forty a pop, and began laying down their plans. Quickly, the city became the capital of the Republic, and eventually, Texas became the 28th state. Although it is no longer the capital, it continues to bare the name of our first president, as well as hold 2.3 million people, making it the largest city in the Lone Star State.  And to all the Houstonians who’ve moved here to Boerne…you’re welcome.



 The Boerne Animal Care Services is dealing with a full house... Just yesterday they took in nearly a dozen cats and kittens with already limited space. If you’ve been in the market for a new kitty meow, stop by the Boerne ACS or call 830-249-2456. Their adoption fees have been lower to just $25 - and coming up on Wednesday September 18th from 10 to 2 is their special Rabies Vaccination Clinic and a good day to get your City of Boerne Pet License.   You can register at boerne-TX.gov/acs.

The Boerne Independent School District is proud to announce a new safety and security initiative called the Empowered Partner Program. It’s designed to keep students safe through local business partnerships to become safe zones where students can seek help if they need assistance. Some of these proud businesses include 28 Songs, Das Greenhaus, Hill Country Pregnancy Center and the Hill Country Animal League.



If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, the 118th Kendall County Fair kicks off today! That means a carnival, shopping and food, and good ol’ mutton bustin at the rodeo will be happening tonight through the rest of the weekend. The purpose of the annual fair is to display the best agriculture products and livestock from Kendall County and the surrounding hill country area, plus have a great deal of fun.

Happy game day, Boerne! Greyhounds look to mark their territory tonight in their first ever game as a 5A competitor- don’t forget we’ll have the game for you here on Boerne Radio at 6:30. Speaking of, happy centennial to the Greyhound football team, first incarnated in 1924… a big celebration at next week’s home game on Thursday against United South will mark the historic 100-year celebration.

And… Boerne Little League players returned to their respective schools this week for THEIR official first week of class and I would assume you’d be the big man on campus, girls are asking for your number, maybe an autograph or two… and you’d be allowed to sit at the big boys’ table at lunch… but my guess is nothing but humble returns for these future Astros, Rangers, and Yankees players. X was loaded with photos of students taking pictures with the boys, cheerleaders, and even mascots and teachers… They represented Boerne well and now it's time to represent in the classroom. Well done once again, gentleman, and have a great school year!

Boerne Radio Sports - August 29, 2024

It’s Thursday August 29th. 



It was on this date in 1966 that the Beatles performed their last scheduled concert in a stadium. They had played a 13-stop tour, with the final show at Candlestick Park in San Francisco. Tickets were sold at $4.50 and $6.50 per ticket, and they played 11 songs in just 30 minutes…opening with a Chuck Berry cover and closing with a Little Richard Cover.  The opening acts were The Remains, Bobby Hebb, The Crykle, and the Ronettes. 



Hey how about those pop up showers over the last few days…and it’s a thing that maybe you got it and maybe you didn’t…but we’ll take every drop and feeling the temp drop by 10 degrees…next chance for rain is everyday starting this Saturday thru the middle of next week.

Boerne Radio’s Weather veteran Jacques F. DuBose will keep you updated unless he’s in the middle of his schoolwork because he’s 12 years old.



Boerne ISD held their School Board meeting this week, and here are the important updates. The Board voted to lower the District’s property tax rate for the 6th year in a row, decreasing  by 26% since 2019. They also approved increased financial support for school safety and basic allotment to keep pace with inflation. Dr. Craft gave a speech about her strategic plan for the school year, highlighting the measurable goals like student success and fiscal responsibility. The Board also heard about the completed projects like the opening of Viola Wilson Elementary and the continued work on the P-TECH addition at Champion. 



Programming alert! Boerne ISD football starts tonight with the Boerne Greyhounds against the Pieper Warriors. You can listen live on Boerne Radio starting at 6:30 for our pregame, followed by kickoff at 7.If you are planning on attending the Champion games this year, the shuttle service is back in business. Shuttles will begin picking folks up from Champion at 6 until 7:30, and then will take passengers back from the South gate of the stadium starting at 9:45 until an hour after the whistle.
