There’s reasons why Cuero is a good softball team and it showed last night - you got to listen to it here on Boerne Radio. Games 1 & 2 were not what the Greyhound softball team was hoping for- a grand slam in the 4th inning got Cuero a good lead at that point. About a half hour later - a fresh start, and the Greyhounds capitalized with 9 runs scored to make it a 12-10 ball game, but that would be the last time the numbers would move. Despite the Greyhounds’ season coming to an end, they never gave up and kept it close against a tough team.

Remember the other day, when I mentioned how Champion baseball needed to win this game last night vs Seguin to win the district? Well, they did. 8-3 they take care of business, they get the banner, and will have a statement come playoffs next week.

The Greyhound baseball team also finished their regular season with a victory over Wimberley, 7-6. They finished with a district record of 12-3.

TONIGHT - we will have baseball here on Boerne Radio. Champion and Tivy will square off at 6:45 starting with the pregame show. Listen over-the-air on 103.9FM, BoerneRadio.com, or using the Boerne Radio App. Game 1 of the El Campo and Boerne series will air on TSP’s website. 

Zach Hefferman who graduated a Champion Charger in 2021, is now finding his way on top of the collegiate golf world. Hefferman and his school, the Baylor Bears, are headed to the National Tournament at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California. The tournament will take place next week, May 24 and run through the 29th. 

The NBA Sportsmanship Award Recipient is to be announced today at 11. Tre Jones from the Spurs is up as a finalist for the award. 

And the Dallas Mavericks are 1 win away from knocking out the Oklahoma City Thunder and advancing to the Western Conference Finals following a win last night… oh, but one thing- no one cares.

Boerne Radio Sports - May 16, 2024

It’s Thursday May 16th. 

And on this date in 1929, the first Academy Awards are hosted in Hollywood and the Oscar for Best Film goes to Wings - which starred Clara Bow and a young Gary Cooper.  It was a World War 1 story that remains the only silent film to win best picture.  The other interesting thing is that the film was shot on location at Kelly Field in San Antonio, Texas.

The Texas Department of Transportation AKA TXDOT put out the press release with a good news bad news announcement…

The good news is Loop 1604 will have 6 lanes open before next week…The bad news is another weekend of major closures across Loop 1604 at I-10 - it all starts again at 9 on Friday night and back to the normal crazy at 5am on Monday.

1604 main lanes from La Cantera Parkway to Stone Oak Parkway will be closed, but the section between Vance Jackson to Stone Oak will reopen by Saturday night.



And for the 13th year in a row, the City of Boerne has been given the title of a 2023 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation. In order to qualify, the city must have a board dedicated to tree preservation, host an Arbor Day observance, have a tree care ordinance and spend at least $2 per capita on forestry. This honor points to the dedication of the Parks and Rec department over the past 13 years, as they have planted over 1800 trees in that time. 



The Boerne Fire Department has officially put up the new sign for Fire Station No. 2, which is set to open next year. The Department, alongside Mayor Richie and the City Council, held a land dedication ceremony yesterday morning in honor of the new firehouse. Construction will begin soon after the plans are finished.

Champion baseball will continue their playoff streak this week against Kerrville Tivy- dates and times have been settled, with subjection to change. Game 1 will be at Champion Thursday at 7, at Tivy on Friday at 7, and if needed, game 3 Saturday at SW Legacy High School at 1pm. 

We will carry game 1 of this series Thursday, then it's the Greyhounds’ turn with game 2 on Friday against El Campo, and if that series goes the distance, we will carry game 3, if not… the Chargers will get the primetime slot. Listen live here on Boerne Radio 15 minutes prior to first pitch for the pregame shows.

Brandon Cheves, new Greyhound swim and water polo coach was at the Rock House yesterday for a meet and greet… and talked with Kerry Barboza of the Boerne Star about his plans as coach… and starting the water polo team.
