Great finish for the Champion baseball team last night thanks in part to Gage Goldberg. He hit the walk off single to drive in the winning run, Champion wins 3-2. This also granted Smithson Valley, their opponent, their first district loss of the season.

Charlie Georgelos got selected to the Express News 5A Area Team for basketball. He led the Chargers team this year in points, rebounds, and assists. The young man has also played 16 career playoff games, making a state tournament appearance in 2022.

The Houston Astros have called up Forrest Whitley, who made his debut yesterday. Whitley is a pitcher from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, and he is being used to help fill vacancies that have plummeted the Astros to last place.

Geneva softball wins BIG last night against Bay Area Christian. The Eagles were down 9-6 late in the game, I don’t think anyone would’ve predicted the final score was 22-14.

Boerne Radio Sports - May 2, 2024

It’s Thursday May 2nd. 

And it’s the National Day of Prayer.

It originally was tied to Thanksgiving in the Fall by Abraham Lincoln, and much later in the Spring by Harry Truman in 1952.  It was during the Reagan administration it was established on the first Thursday of May.  The National Day of Prayer event in Main Plaza here in Boerne will be available on demand on the Boerne Radio Facebook Page.

Many talented Boerne artists competed in the The Visual Arts Scholastic Event, which is a competition for all of the arts students in the State. Boerne Junior Brayden Gardner earned the state’s highest honor, the Gold Seal, for the second year in a row. Other students from BISD won state awards as well, including Mikala Jones, Reese Shaffer, Ryan Vogt, Caroline Cabral, and Kennedy Holland. 



Tomorrow evening is the Boerne Park and Rec’s Monthly Movie in the Park. The games start at 7 with games and bounce houses, and then once the sun goes down Puss and Boots: The Last Wish will start. Thanks to the Patrick Heath Library, the Happy Tails Mobile petting zoo will also be there. 



And in other animal news, there are flyers flying around Cordillera offering a reward for a missing monkey.  The flyers are printed in Spanish and say the monkey is muy asustado or scared, and if you see the money , no perseguir -do not chase.  If you see the monkey, please call 248-701-8111…

And it’s Mental Health Awareness Month, National Military Appreciation Month, and National Foster Care Month.  Today also begins National Teacher Appreciation Week, and a quick reminder that Mother’s Day is on the 12th so don’t blow it and register to win the Mother’s Day contest at boerneradio.com.

Tomorrow you are invited to meet in Main Plaza for the National Day of Prayer celebration.  The Ceremony officially begins at noon after the blowing of the Shofar, and the posting of the colors.  Pastor Ruben Mendez will welcome all and pray over our Leaders, The Governor's proclamation will be read by State Representative Ellen Troxclair, the County Judge’s Proclamation by Shane Stolarczyk, the mayor’s Proclamation by Frank Ritchie, prayers for county leaders from Country Commissioner Andra Wisian, all in authority from Kyle Biedermann, prayers for law enforcement from Sheriff Al Auxier, and others praying over our churches, our families, our youth, our businesses, and prayers for the media which they are let yours truely take that one.  We’ll see you in the Main Plaza tomorrow at noon for the National Day of Prayer.

And a sad post by George Strait last night where he said - quote:

We lost another one of our good friends and a huge part of our musical journey yesterday. Tom Foote, our one-time drummer and long-time road manager for around 48 years, suddenly passed away at his home after our rehearsal. 2024 is taking its toll on the Ace in the Hole group. We’re all heartbroken to say the least.

Back in March, George Strait’s business manager Erv Woolsey passed away, as did long time fiddle and mandolin player for the Ace in the Hole Band, Gene Elders.
