And it was on this date in 1898 that the treaty of Paris was signed ending the Spanish American War that ended Spanish colonial rule in the Americas. It first began in the Cuban struggle for independence from Spain in 1895. With the Treaty of Paris, Spain gave up all claims to Cuba, and the US acquired the Philippines, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
Last night was the last City Council meeting of the year, and here are some of the highlights. The State Legislature required a revision of the City ordinance surrounding credits for developers in an effort to conserve water and wastewater. Although the City already has credits for developers, there were necessary language changes required by State Law. They also discussed the GBRA water main extension, breaking down costs and renovations as the project continues.
They also confirmed that same day trash and recycling pickup will begin in January, and how the rates will increase slightly once this occurs. The infrastructure projects for the upcoming year were quickly reviewed, and the council gave thanks to the amazing teams that put together Dicken’s On Main and the Weihnachts Parade.

Boerne ISD Superintendent Dr. Kristin Craft has completed the prestigious 18-month Holdsworth Superintendent Leadership Program. Craft was one of just 10 superintendents selected statewide for the elite training. District leaders say the experience strengthens Boerne ISD’s vision as the district continues earning top ratings and expanding student programs.
TxDOT Work and lane closures are taking place at the Cibolo Creek Bridge on Ralph Fair Road starting today in Fair Oaks Ranch. Traffic on the bridge will be reduced to one lane under two-way traffic control, assisted by flaggers and police officers, and should finish at about 4 pm. Traffic will shift from the east to the west throughout the day, which will allow crews to install a new concrete rail and pedestrian rail.
