Boerne Radio News is delivered to you by The Boerne Star….and by The Hill Country Animal League as the 6th annual Barktoberfest is this Saturday in Main Plaza from 10-4. Bring the kids, bring the pets, as there will be a petting zoo, the doggy dash, a costume contest featuring your pets for prizes, a silent auction, food trucks, and if you don’t have a doggie, you may end up leaving with one as pet adoptions will also be on site, and it all supports your low-cost spay and neutering friends at Hill Country Animal League.
It’s Tuesday, October 13th.
And it was on this date in 1792 that the Cornerstone is laid by U.S. President George Washington for the President's House, later known as the White House. He is the only U.S. President to never have lived there.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is the Boerne Senior Expo in the Menger Ballroom at the Bevy Hotel. This free event is from 9 to 3, and helps connect seniors with essential resources in the Boerne area like health services, financial planning and community programs. And besides free bingo there are prizes! Here’s founder and organizer Robyn Cade with the RJC Event Group:

Admission for the 55 and up senior expo is free, and they will not be checking IDs at the door. Make sure you swing by the Boerne Radio Table - we’d love to record your shout-out.
Boerne City Council is back in action tonight. Council meets at 6 o’clock at City Hall, with a public hearing on the proposed annexation of about 13-point-4 acres along the 31300 to 31400 block of I-10 which is a primary commercial stretch situated between Scenic Loop Road and Balcones Creek, bordering the outer edge of Fair Oaks Ranch. Council will also consider rezoning that property to Community Commercial and a special-use permit that would allow automobile sales and service on part of the site. Another interesting item tonight: the City is considering formally adopting the Texas Department of Information Resources’ Artificial Intelligence Systems Code of Ethics and designating an AI risk officer. The agenda also includes an agreement with Fair Oaks Ranch for use of Boerne’s Animal Control facility, plus count on an update on City Park.
The U.S. Small Business Administration is accepting Disaster Assistance applications from eligible nonprofit and faith-based organizations in Kendall County. This relief is to support the businesses affected by the severe weather and flooding between July 12th and August 4th-they may qualify for low-interest disaster loans to repair or replace damaged property, equipment, inventory, and other assets, as well as assistance with certain operating expenses. Applications for physical damage loans are due November 2, 2026, and you can apply now at sba.gov/disaster.
Fair Oaks Ranch is continuing its ongoing roadway maintenance efforts this Friday and the following Monday on Noble Lark and Kalkallo Drive. Contractors will be conducting micro seal operations, but minimal traffic impact is expected. Flaggers will be present to safely direct traffic through the work zone and maintain access as operations progress.
The Boerne Chamber of Commerce was closed yesterday for the federal holiday, but is back with seven ribbon cuttings this week.
