Boerne Radio News - Tuesday, June 30, 2026

View descriptionShare

It’s Tuesday June 30th.

The last day of June - 6 months down in 2026 after 181 days with 184 days to go in the year - and just 178 more shopping days until Christmas.

American Economist, author and general smart guy Dr. Thomas Sowell turns 96 today. Guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen is 63, and Olympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Michael Phelps is 41.  And Happy Birthday here in Boerne to Fredrikes Stiehler over at the Ministry of Dance, Family Coach Janet Bonnin with Fine Tuned Families, Cindy Campbell, Jesse Moreno, and Minnie Morales.

MyBoerneNews.com reported yesterday morning a dive team recovered the body of the child who slipped underwater at Boerne City Lake on Sunday night. Boerne Fire Chief Manny Casarez reported crews found 13-year-old Jaylen Robinson of San Antonio in 15 feet of water about 20 feet from the shore.  Chief Manny said “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this young child,” This is the second death at Boerne City Lake in the past 5 weeks-80-year-old Du Long passed over Memorial Day weekend.

Construction on the recent renamed Boerne Heritage Volkspark is continuing right along, and there are some major milestones passed to get us closer to completion. The fencing for the dog park is nearly complete, as well as the shade structure over the men's restroom. Electrical work is continuing across the park, and the athletic lighting for the park has arrived. Signage around the park and the pedestrian trail are also making steady progress.

Nat King Cole famously sang Roll out those lazy hazy days of summer - the Sahara dust is upon us thus the haze, but our friends at the Boerne Life remind us the sunset tonight could be quite colorful. And a great place to catch it is by joining your neighbors in Main Plaza for the free Abendkonzerte with the Boerne Village Band starting at 7:30.

Another reminder, tomorrow I’ll have the honor of hosting a special interview with Stan Leech your Boerne ISD Athletic Director and now author of his new children's book Athletic As A Camel.   The book is illustrated by Mykala Jones.  We’ll do it in the Richter Studio next to the Cork and Keg, the interview will start at 4 with Q and A from the audience - Stan will read a page or two - and then you can get your copy signed then and there.
