š¶ First singing telegram sent on this day in 1933 to bandleader Rudy Vallée
It’s Tuesday July 28th.
And it was on this date in 1933 the first singing telegram was sent and it was sent to singer and bandleader Rudy Vallee from his fans.
And born on this date in 1929 was First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Gerald Casale is 78 years old…he’s the bass player for DEVO.
Here in Boerne we say happy birthday to one of Boerne’s favorite sons - Les Hollon, also to Cyndi Wilkerson, Trish Ramsey, and Stacey Cormican.

Tonight is the final Abendkonzerte at Main Plaza for the season hosted by the Boerne Parks and Rec. The concert is free and continues to be the oldest continuously active German band outside of Germany as it was founded in 1860 by Karl Dienger. And tonight is also the final Boerne Farmers Market in the old City Hall parking lot before they move to Main Street.
Tomorrow night in Fair Oaks Ranch is the Dietz Elkhorn Reconstruction Project public meeting, which will discuss the upcoming water line project. Staff and the project team will share project details, the anticipated schedule, construction phases, and proposed detour plans. The presentation will begin at 4 in the Police Department training room and is planned to end at 6.
The Hill Country Animal League is hosting a free pet vaccine clinic Thursday, August 13th, thanks to a donation from Petco Love. Free rabies and distemper vaccines will be available for dogs, along with free rabies and FVRCP vaccines for cats. The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hill Country Animal League Clinic in Boerne. Appointments are required. Call 830-249-2341 and ask for the “Free Vaccine Clinic.”
Shout out to nearly a dozen City of Boerne employees who spent two days volunteering in Comfort, helping residents begin the difficult process of recovering from the devastating flooding. Staff removed damaged flooring, drywall, and other debris from the homes, demonstrating what City Manager Ben Thatcher calls loving thy neighbor.
Battle of the badges is on! The Boerne Police and Fire Departments are joining the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center today at the Boerne Family YMCA. Every donation saves lives and you can support your favorite team. As a thank-you, donors will receive a commemorative Battle of the Badges T-shirt.
