The Boerne Star reported over the weekend that a proposed multistory public parking garage next to the Kendall County Courthouse is projected to operate at a loss according to a study. The garage will cost $26,000 more annually to run than the anticipated revenue it will generate, but County Judge Shane Stolarczyk said the investment was never meant to generate income. Several factors could influence the outcome of usage and revenue- Commissioner Richard Chapman noted that adding retail or office space could increase sales taxes to offset the deficit.
Also in the Boerne Star, Chris Wiley submitted that Kendall County homeowners can now apply for help reducing wildfire risk through a new grant program from the Hill Country Fire Coalition of Texas. The program provides financial or physical assistance to complete wildfire mitigation projects identified during a free Property Risk Assessment. Applications are due August 21st. Coalition leaders remind residents that recent rainfall is only temporary, and preparing homes now can help protect lives, property, and first responders when wildfire conditions return. To request a Property Risk Assessment or obtain a grant application, contact the Hill Country Fire Coalition of Texas at info@hcfcoftx.com.
The Bandera Electric Cooperative donated $5,000 over the weekend to Hill Country Family Services to support families displaced by the recent flooding. The BEC Foundation then generously matched the donation, bringing the total contribution to 10,000.
