And it’s San Jacinto Day where on this date in 1836, General Sam Houston and his men defeated the much larger Mexican Army in the battle of San Jacinto. The fight lasted only 18 minutes, and was the final and decisive battle for Texas Independence.

Texas lawmakers are beginning a deep investigation into the deadly July 2025 floods in the Hill Country, as community members call for broader accountability. Yesterday during a visit to Camp Mystic, where 28 lives were lost, residents held signs honoring all 119 killed across Kerr County. Some criticized the focus on the camp alone, urging a wider review of the disaster. Lawmakers say the goal is to examine response efforts and improve future flood preparedness. The Texas Legislature does not meet again to make new laws until Jan. 2027.
