It’s Thursday October 3rd…

And a few TV shows made their debut on this date, starting with the Mickey Mouse Club in 1955. The original only lasted until ‘59, but came back on and off until 1996. Some famous kids were regulars on the show, including Britney Spears, Mickey Rooney Jr.  and Ryan Gosling. In 1960, one of my favorites, The Andy Griffith Show debuted… And in 1961 came the Dick Van Dyke show, which also starred Mary Tyler Moore. The show would go on to win 15 Emmys. 

An organization known as United Latinas has announced their nominees for the 2024 Extraordinary Latinas Award, and a local Boerne woman made the list... Yvette Reyna.  She is Boerne ISD’s Executive Director of the Boerne Education Foundation.  Her impact within the district, which spans both students and staff, is inspiring and deserves this recognition. 

Boerne Utilities customers will be experiencing an upgrade in the next year with their water and gas. The City has contracted Envocore-RTS Water Solutions, who will be working in predetermined zones and are going to switch out 5,200 water meters and 2,000 gas meter modules. The transition will take over a year and will coordinate with your billing cycle so there is minimal disruption. Each installation will take about 30 minutes, and the new meters will have more accurate readings. However, once the transition happens, you may experience temporary occurrences such as changes in water pressure, discoloration of water, air in the lines and small particles of sediment.  The city says no need to boil water, and to clear your water lines, flush your system by running cold water from your bathtub or an outside tap for 3 to 5 minutes. 

With the scary port strike looming, toilet paper hoarding has already begun…idiots! The only thing we need to fear is fear itself. 90% of toilet paper is made in the US. But bananas, alcohol, seafood, electronics, pharmaceuticals, cars, and car parts are the main things that come through the ports - so if you’re gonna clear out Costco and HEB and be that guy…get your Guinness and buy your bananas now.
