It’s Thursday July 23rd. 

The Ice Cream Cone was invented on this date in 1904 by Charles E. Miches of St. Louis although he may not have been the first. According to legend, a Syrian vendor named Arnold Fornachou may have accidentally stumbled upon the invention first at the St. Louis World Fair when he ran out of paper cups. He then bought waffles from a waffle vendor and rolled them into cones to hold the ice cream.

Jo Groff, Executive Director of the Comfort Area Chamber of Commerce openly thanked Bryce Boddie at Hill Country Family Services for putting displaced families in hotels when the flood hit, plus arranging roll-off dumpsters, and coordinating supplies along with the Comfort Boys and Girls Club providing specific cleaning supplies, Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries being the hands and feet of Jesus with volunteer Visit Comfort Texas received a $5,000 sponsorship gift from Frost Bank to support tourism infrastructure workers.

She also wanted everyone to know that Comfort Texas is open for business this weekend and appreciates everyone’s support.   

The Boerne Star reported Visit Comfort Texas received a $5,000 sponsorship gift from Frost Bank to support tourism infrastructure and long-term economic developments in the city. The award will go towards better understanding visitor patterns, measuring the impact of tourism initiatives, and making data-informed decisions that support local businesses. 

The Hill Country Animal League is hosting a free pet vaccine clinic Thursday, August 13th, thanks to a donation from Petco Love.  Free rabies and distemper vaccines will be available for dogs, along with free rabies and FVRCP vaccines for cats. The clinic runs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Hill Country Animal League Clinic in Boerne. Appointments are required. Call 830-249-2341 and ask for the “Free Vaccine Clinic.”

If you’re a chocolate lover, you can take a behind-the-scenes look at the art and science of chocolate making during “Chocolate Alchemy: Craft and Technique” at the Cibolo Center.  Chef Sidney Hill will explain how cacao is transformed into fine chocolate, covering sourcing, roasting, refining, flavor development and texture.  The class is tonight from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and is open to curious beginners and devoted chocolate fans alike.  Tickets are still available on the events page at cibolo.org.

A lot of progress has been made towards reopening roads in the Hill Country after the historic flooding last week. In Boerne, the streets department has been cleaning debris at the low water crossing at W. Theissen. After cleaning it up and reinstalling the metal barriers, they reopened the road to vehicular traffic at 10 a.m.  Battle Intense is also open at Fair Oaks Ranch.
