It’s Thursday January 15th.
It was on this date in 1967 that the Green Bay Packers faced off against the Kansas City Chief’s for the first ever Superbowl; although it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship back in the day. It was the only Superbowl televised by two television networks, NBC and CBS, and the halftime show featured the marching bands from the University of Arizona and Grambling College, trumpeter Al Hirt, the Ana-Hi-Steppers, 300 pigeons and 10,000 balloons. In the end, the Packers beat the Chiefs 35 to 10.
Congratulations to both Boerne High and Champion for being named on the College Board national AP Honor Roll! Both are categorized as Silver members of the honor roll for 2025. Boerne High had 60% of its seniors take at least one AP exam during their academic career, 46% scoring a 3 or higher on at least one, and 27% who took 5 or more exams. Champion saw similar stats, with 63% taking at least one exam, 48% scoring a 3 or higher, and 30% taking 5 or more tests.
Mayor Ritchie met with members of the Kendall County Crime Stoppers organization to officially recognize January as National Crime Stoppers Month through a formal proclamation. The organization plays a vital role in strengthening public safety by providing a secure, anonymous way for residents to share information about criminal activity. These tips sometimes lead to arrests and create safer neighborhoods here in Boerne.
If you’re a Texas History nerd, tonight is the perfect opportunity to see some one of a kind photographs from the Pre-Civil war era. About 118 photographers were working in Texas between 1840 and 1860, and it became customary to commemorate the service and departure of many soldiers heading to war. The Patrick Heath Public Library, with the collaboration of the Old Jail Museum and the Kendall County Historical Commission will be hosting a special discussion with Dean Sprowl, the President of the museum. Sprowl has been a collector of Texan, Civil War and early photography for decades, and will provide unique insight and rare photos for the public. If you’d like to take a gander, you can visit the Library’s community room tonight at 6 pm.
