Thank you, Carlin Friar - President of the Bank and Trust here in Boerne, and also your Boerne ISD Trustee in Place 1 - Happy 3rd official day of school!
It’s Thursda,y August 14th.
An important day in American History - it’s VJ Day - when Japan surrenders, ending World War II. Japan would sign the formal surrender terms two weeks later aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay in 1945. Today the Missouri rests near the sunken Arizona in Pearl Harbor, where the war started for the US.
It’s made the ballot for November 4th - a new city could be on the horizon in the Northwest corner of Kendall County on the campus of Patriot Academy, with the proposed name of Constitutional City. The land is home to Patriot Academy, conveniently situated on 1776…I mean 177.6 acres - established addresses already include 1776, and 1845 Patriot Way. They teach civics, the Constitution, and there’s a gun range there as well. Judge Shane Stolarczyk said the measure is not up for a county-wide vote, and only the people living in the area where the proposed city would be located will be able to vote on whether to incorporate. You can follow this story on the Patriot Academy Facebook page.
Today, the City of Fair Oaks Ranch is hosting an Open House at 4 p.m. regarding the construction on Rolling Acres and Willow Wind. The city is going to replace aging water mains that are in poor condition and have had a few breaks here and there. You can review project details, see how it will reduce water loss, and ask questions.
And for those of you who can’t sing but still love to perform, the Hill Country Poets are hosting the Poetry Open Mic tonight at the Boerne Bookshop. Whether you want to step on stage or listen from the audience, this free event offers great art and good vibes to everyone involved. The open mic will be go from 6 to 8.
Hopefully, you’ve been hearing the messages from County Commissioner Andra Wisian here on Boerne Radio…if your property was affected by the flooding last month, you may qualify for free debris removal. The Kendall County Office of Emergency Management has created the Private Property Debris Removal Program to help get rid of vegetative debris, construction debris, household appliances and hazardous waste. To apply, you’ll need a photo ID, some proof of property ownership, and insurance information if you have it. You can either apply in person at the Comfort Golden Age Center, or by clicking the link posted in the news blog at Boerneradio.com. https://tinyurl.com/yejmkbc6
And in music news, The Honorees of the Kennedy Center were announced and Boerne’s own George Strait will be in the 48th class along with Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, KISS, and Michael Crawford for their lifetime artistic achievements. The ceremony will be held on Sunday, December 7th.
