It’s Friday November 15th. 

The National Broadcasting Company - AKA NBC became the first nationwide radio network on this date in 1926. Broadcasting from the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, 19 stations from the East Coast to Kansas City Missouri heard the live broadcast of a four hour show featuring popular music and comedy.  2.5 million people experienced the miracle of radio at the same time.

Almost 100 years later this gift called radio is a joy to bring to you here in Boerne.

A few weeks ago we reported the sighting of a potential rabib fox in Boerne…The City of Boerne reported that a fox recently found deceased near Cibolo Crossing has tested positive for rabies.   City Officials ask residents to be vigilant around wildlife, and to check your pet’s rabies vaccine record. Boerne Animal Care Services also suggests that you feed your pets inside your home or garage, bring all pet food and water inside, remove clutter and debris from your yard and to keep trash bins secured.

We turn now to Boerne Radio Traffic Director Dusty Rhodes who’s on special assignment on foot with a potential new rabid fox sighting…come in Dusty.

Friday 11/15

Heard here live on Boerne Radio last night- the football playoffs have began, and Boerne was in an interesting spot with a chance to make history and get their first playoff win as a 5A team… Boerne was slow to get the offense going, but they went up 14-0 early. The first touchdown for Carroll was off a broken play on a return… then Boerne turned it on in the 2nd half, even scoring a 2-point conversion off a blocked extra point attempt. Jaxon Baize even had a chance to come in as quarterback for a second… final was 39-21, the Greyhounds advance to the area playoffs. The Jon Wayne Player of the Game was quarterback Hank Hendrix… starting on Sunday you can vote for him to be Player of the Week! Just head to POTG.JonWayne.com.

We should know the team Boerne will face next week by late tonight- the Edcouch-Elsa YellowJackets and the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots will play tonight at 7, and the winner will see the Greyhounds. 

The Spurs start NBA Cup play tonight at 6:30 at the Frost Bank Center against the Lakers.

Tonight here on Boerne Radio… the match up everyone in the city has been waiting for. Corpus Christi Carroll comes to the Hill Country to face the Greyhounds for the bi-district championship… It's the first round of the playoffs here on the station with a chance for the Greyhounds to make history and produce their first 5A playoff win as a program… Our coverage will start at 6:30 with the pregame show. This morning, 5 Champion Chargers will be signing their intents to continue athletics at different universities. Jackson Melanson to Missouri S&T for baseball, Sawyer Smith to A&M Kingsville for baseball, Ella Coleman to Wofford College for volleyball, Phoenix Guerra to Texas State for Golf, and Maddie Meinke to Western Colorado for Track and Field. 

A historic night for the Spurs… a historic night for Victor Wembanyama… I want you to guess how many points Wemby scored in the 139-130 victory over Washington… I’ll give you a moment… if you guessed 50, you’re correct. He had a career-high 50-point game, and 24 of those points came off a career-high 8 of 16 3-point shooting stat he obtained. Some more history… he is the only 7-foot-tall player to have 8 threes in a game, is the 4th-youngest player to score 50 points, he scored it in 28 minutes, and is the first Spur all time to have 50 and more than 5 threes in a game. He is also the 167th NBA player in history to score 50 points or more at least once.

It’s Thursday November 14th

. It was on this day in 1969 that Apollo 12 launched in pursuit of the moon. Their mission got off to a rocky start, as they were struck by lightning twice within the first minute of launching. Apollo 12 was the 6th successful manned space flight executed by the United States, the 2nd trip to the moon with Commander Charles “Pete” Conrad Jr. who was the 3rd man to ever walk the moon’s surface, followed by #4, Alan Bean…and poor Richard Gordon only got to pilot the command module…but someone had to do it.

The Kendall County Blue Santa Program is back like pumpkin spice but twice as nice. The Boerne and Fair Oaks Ranch Police Departments, as well as the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office are looking for donations of new, unwrapped gifts. Each department has an amazon wish list, but bring a $10 toy to Boerne Radio’s Boost Boerne Business event on December 4th at the Bevy Hotel, you could win a $500 credit on Boerne Radio.

The Boerne Education Foundation held their annual fundraiser a couple of days ago and the finals numbers are in - $196,000 in Teacher Innovation Grants. These grants will empower the teachers to take learning to new heights and make a difference in the lives of our students. Just another $4000 will get them to $200,000 - Still time to donate at the BEF page for Boerne ISD - and we have the direct link in the news blog at boerneradio.com.

The National Weather Service has reported an elevation to critical fire conditions forecasted across the western three quarters of South Central Texas, including Kendall County. Of course we have the burn ban already established, please…no welding in your dried out barn.
