It’s Monday December 22nd.
It was on this date in 1882 that electric lights first graced the Christmas tree, rather than the traditional candles. Like that’s not a fire hazard. Edward H. Johnson was an associate of Thomas Edison, and was the Vice President of the Edison Electric Light Company. He brought home 80 red, white and blue electric light bulbs that he had wired together, but it would take 50 years for the trend to catch on entirely. However, it was possible to rent Christmas lights in the 1900’s for $12, which today would equate to $300.
Boerne Radio’s 12 Strays of Christmas has been a great success in our partnership with Boerne Animal Care Services…some families full of love just got bigger in time for Christmas… Jennifer Sullivan took home Brookie, Christie Lynn rescued Sheba, Brian Rodgers picked up Oreo, and Patrick Pattersonson has a new best friend named Sparky. We’d like to also thank The Hill Country Animal League, and the Hill County Animal Emergency Hospital in helping us get the word out.
Boerne Animal Care Services is urging pet owners to ensure your animals are fully vaccinated against the virus known as Parvo…as they are seeing an uptick this season.
This past Saturday marked the finale of the Kendall County Blue Santa Program for 2025. Because of the incredible generosity of the Boerne community, as well as more than 1,000 volunteer hours dedicated to the program, over 800 children were able to celebrate Christmas with presents under the tree.
Thanks to VFW Post 688 for a little community cleanup yesterday in River Road Park and they didn’t do it alone thanks to Cub Scout Pack 18, who came to assist the veterans.
The Boerne Education Foundation has done incredible work this year supporting our honorable school district. Within the last month, the BEF funded 112 Teacher Innovation Grants, giving $200,080 back to educators. Along with each check came a parade-like celebration for each teacher featuring students, music and plenty of cheer.
