Boerne has been selected as one of just 25 finalists nationwide in Hallmark’s Merriest Christmas Town contest — and we’re the only Texas town in the running. Online voting started on Friday and goes through September 4th where you can vote once a day everyday through. The winning town gets the chance to host a future Hallmark movie production.
Today is also officially Boerne and Kendall County Nonprofit Day. City and county leaders issued proclamations recognizing August 17th and the hundreds of nonprofit organizations serving our community. The Greater Boerne Chamber says more than 400 nonprofits operate in the area, with thousands of volunteers supporting everything from food assistance and youth programs to animal rescue and conservation. And there’s one more called USA Radio that benefits local radio that you can donate to to help us build our tower.
Boerne City Attorney William M. “Mick” McKamie has been named the 2026 Outstanding Government Lawyer by the State Bar of Texas. In 1992, McKamie represented the City of Boerne on the national stage at the Supreme Court, which ultimately upheld the City’s historic district and prevented St. Peter’s Catholic Church from tearing down a majority of its 1920s sanctuary. Since then, he has assisted the City multiple times as their full-time attorney, as well as other local governments in state and federal courts. This specific honor recognizes McKamie for his exemplary service to the profession and the public.
H-E-B has pulled several pico de gallo, diced jalapeño and stuffed mushroom products after a supplier recall tied to possible salmonella contamination. The affected items were sold in Texas and Louisiana through August 5th. H-E-B says all recalled products are off shelves, and products currently for sale are safe. H-E-B has a full list of recalled items on their website for customers to review and we have that link in the news blog at boerneradio.com.
The City of Boerne gave us an update over the weekend on the environmental features in Boerne Heritage Volkspark. There is an underground drain system that will carry and collect stormwater in order to support multiple vegetation strips. Native plants and trees will provide additional filtration for the rainwater flowing into detention basins, helping to remove organic compounds. 96% of existing trees are preserved in the project, and nearly 100 new trees will be planted during construction.
