Boerne Little League is now just one win away from the Southwest Regional Championship game. Representing Texas West, Boerne beat Texas East and Lamar Little League 3-to-2 last night in Waco. That came after Boerne stayed alive Saturday with a 10-to-nothing win over Mississippi. Boerne now plays Louisiana at 2 o’clock this afternoon. The winner advances to Tuesday night’s Southwest Championship against undefeated Oklahoma, with a trip to the Little League World Series on the line.
The owner of Hovey Motorcars and his son pleaded guilty Thursday to multiple first-degree felony charges after allegations that they stole thousands of dollars from customers. Judge Kirsten Cohoon accepted the guilty pleas from Richard Dean Hovey Sr. and Jr. and is expected to hand down their sentences on January 14th. The charges stem from a nearly yearlong investigation into the luxury car dealership conducted by the Boerne Police Department involving multiple victims and numerous reports filed over several months. Police say the scheme involved $300,000 in stolen funds.
And congratulations to Boerne Champion swimmer Kate Canales. Canales captured her first junior national championship, winning the 50-meter breaststroke at USA Swimming’s Junior Nationals in Irvine, California. Her winning time was 32-point-04 seconds. Canales, who will be a senior at Champion, is already an eight-time state gold medalist and has committed to swim for the University of Florida.
Congratulations to Boerne’s own Municipal Court Clerk Barbara Rodriguez for completing her level 3 certification through the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center. She received statewide recognition for being one of only 158 clerks to have the distinction.
It is the 2nd week of the month so that means it’s Bulky Item and brush collection week - your trash day is the day to put out the big stuff too big for the can. If its brush make sure it’s chopped and tied up.
