And born on this date in 1921 was John Herschel Glenn who was the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. He was one of the original 1959 Mercury Seven test pilots as depicted in the movie The Right Stuff, and was a fighter pilot in World War II and Korea with six Distinguished Flying Crosses and 18 clusters to the Air Medal. In 1998 John Glenn flew into space again at the age of 77.

The Upper Guadalupe River Authority released an advisory to the public to avoid being near or in waterways in Kerr County due to debris, fast-moving currents, and poor water quality. Emergency operations are ongoing so no boating or swimming at this time.
