It’s Friday July 3rd, 

And on the eve of the day we celebrate the birthday date of our country, there were a few iconic deaths that occurred on July 3rd including Brian Jones from the Rolling Stones in 1969, Jim Morrison in 1971, and a personal hero of mine passed away on this date in 2012 who played the part of Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show.

Born on this date 80 years ago today is Mr. Looking for Love Johnny Lee who was born in Alta Loma, Texas.  

And here in Boerne we say happy birthday to Mr. Darrell Steubing - the past president of the South Texas Area Farm and Ranch Club.  Also to Julie Gormley, James Lowrie, and Amanda Bailey.

In case you haven’t heard tomorrow is Independence Day - our 250th anniversary of this experiment known as the united States. Government offices are closed today including the Patrick Heath Public Library and the Chamber of Commerce.  The banks will be open today, but closed tomorrow.  Also The Farmer’s Market at Herff Farm will not be taking place tomorrow due to the holiday but will return next week at 9 am on Saturday. 

The Comfort Bike Parade begins at 9:30 that starts at 8th and High Street, with the 10am Independence Day Parade that starts at High and Linder Avenue, Picnic in the Park is at 11 with the Drugstore Cowboys performing live in the Gazebo. George Washington will be there making a speech at 11:30 and 12:30 at the Giles Hotels, and the Stein Holding Contest is at noon.

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch 4th of July Fireworks and Laser show opens the gates at 6 at the Fair Oaks Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Meanwhile in Boerne the 7th Annual Flag Run 5K starts at 8, and we’ll see you in Boerne City Park for the fireworks show that starts at approximately 9, and if you’re watching the show from Champion High School, or the Fair Grounds or anywhere out of earshot of the patriotic music, download the Boerne Radio app or tune in to us as we’ll be playing the same mix at the same time.

With all the Europeans and Latin Americans in our country witnessing our 250 Anniversary, pride in our country couldn’t come at a better time, and Dale Adams at the Boerne Bookshop has a full section on American history and new ways the story is being told.

The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country announced that 130 households have returned to permanent housing, while 98 additional households are actively progressing toward permanent housing solutions. The Foundation launched the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund on July 4th last year, and has raised more than $150 million and distributed $82 million to support recovery efforts across the region. The Foundation continues working with nonprofit, government and community partners to help flood survivors rebuild and recover.
