Headlines: Options and improvements of the dangerous conditions of Hwy-46 /potential actions for the issue of vaping for students/Camp Bullis will undergo prescribed burns.

It’s Monday December 9th.

And it was on this date in 1965 that this debuted on CBS -

(clip of Linus’ speech from the Christmas Special)

After executives first previewed the special they hated it…the animation was poor, the music was different, plus they thought the message would alienate viewers.  And Charles Schulz famously said “If we don’t do it, who will?”

If you missed the Boerne Star this weekend, here are some of the top stories. At a special meeting this past week, the Kendall County Commissioners Court heard options from TxDOT about how to improve the dangerous conditions of Hwy-46. Between 2019-2024, TxDOT reported 337 total crashes on 46, six of those involving fatalities; the Department identified speeding as the number one cause of these accidents. Some of the options presented included the installation of a third lane for turning or passing, as well as short term solutions such as speed monitoring, and more presence of officers and patrols.

The Boerne Star also reported on the recent development at Champion High School that occurred over Thanksgiving Break. Apparently vaping has become a big issue at our schools, and administration has made an effort to try to control the trend by having maintenance crews removed the exterior doors from the school's restrooms. No, not individual stall doors, just the doors from hallways to the restrooms. Furthermore, some of the mirrors were removed to make it difficult to see into the bathroom from the hallway.

And speaking of smoking, Camp Bullis is going to be a little hazy this week as they undergo prescribed burns.  Remember this from last year?  Starting today through the 17th, the base will be doing a controlled burn to reduce fuel loads such as dead vegetation and thick brush, which will lessen the risk of a potentially catastrophic wildfire.  Remember last year? The Base will evaluate conditions each day before burning, but our friends just South of us on I-10 near Ralph Fair can expect to see and smell smoke throughout the week.
