Our news today is simply the post from Boerne Mayor Frank Ritchie that says:

“Today we  celebrate the birth of our Lord, not because we have to but because we want and/or get too!  God does not and will not force a relationship with you. You must choose…we can choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus or not.  No matter what you have done or who you think you are, you are a child of God and that will never change. Lord help us to be in relationship with you and all your people. Strengthen us in your will and your ways, may we choose you Lord and forever be changed by love and grace. Amen.”

And while all city offices and Boerne businesses are closed - as you’re listening to this – first off thank you for spending time with us on Boerne Radio - we’re happy to keep you company with the greatest Christmas music of all time…but think about the folks that are working today at your local convenience stores - the Circle K’s, and Valero’s around town.  Many of them sell gift cards inside the store…so if you get inspired pull one off, take it to the counter, put 20 bucks on it, and then hand it back to the nice lady or man behind the register.   That’s what we do in Boerne.

Headlines: Boerne ISD Holiday Tournament/Spurs VS Brooklyn 

Friday 12/27

Let’s hit the court this Friday and shoot some hoops!… the Boerne ISD Holiday Tournament starts today with the boys and girls teams from Boerne High and Champion will be participating. The Boerne girls vs Southwest Legacy will get us going at 10am. Boerne Boys and McCullum will be at 11, and then them vs Sinton will be at 4. And the girls will close it out against Floresville at 2:30.

For Champion, the girls go first at 10am against Floresville, the boys will play Eagle Pass right after, then at 4 the girls will play Katy Taylor before the guys wrap up the day against McCullum at 5:30. 

And the Spurs are in Brooklyn tonight coming off the loss against New York. Tip-off is at 6:30.

Headlines: Geneve Alumni Basketball Game/Victor Wembanyama NBA Player all-time

Now that Christmas is over, the focus shifts to the transition into 2025… not a lot of high school sports going on but the spring season should be intriguing. 

In the meantime, the Geneva Alumni Basketball Game will be taking place Saturday at the Geneva Gym at 2:30. They are still looking for participants if you’re an alumni basketball player… and in town looking for a fun afternoon. 

I’ll get this out of the way- the Texans lost. (Big time to the Ravens) Given Houston already is going to the playoffs with a now 9-7 record, they were beaten at home 31-2. Merry Christmas to the Ravens, Bah-Humbug to the Texans.

And the Spurs, well, being back on the Christmas Day lineup wasn’t a disappointment. While they lost 117-114 to the Knicks, Victor Wembanyama became the third NBA Player all-time to score more than 40 points in his Christmas debut. He joins Tracy McGrady and Wilt Chamberlin as the only 3 players to accomplish the feat. Spurs are now 15-15.

Headlines:  2024 Blue Santa Program Breaks It Record / Good For The Sole Collecting Your Shoes / Fabra Principle Plays Elf on The School

 

It’s Thursday December 26th. 

 

And it was on this date in 1991, that the former Soviet republics declared their independence and created the Commonwealth of Independent States. Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev had resigned the day before and handed over its powers, including the Soviet nuclear missile launching codes, to Russian President Boris Yeltsin.  

 

The Boerne Star gave us an exclusive look at the Blue Santa Drive pickup that took place last Saturday. This year was the largest in the program’s history, servicing over 250 local families who needed a little extra help this year. Over 100 volunteers worked 500 hours to diligently match toys to wish lists, as well as pass out the bountiful gifts. Amongst the prechosen gifts were additional gift cards and treats, including pizza, candy canes and stuffed stockings. Thanks to all of the businesses that contributed to the Blue Santa Program, and most importantly, thank you to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, the Boerne PD and Fair Oaks PD for hosting. 

 

The Boerne Star also highlighted a local charity that is looking for donations as the New Year approaches. Good For the Sole, which was started by Noah Patton while he was attending Boerne High School in 2022, is an organization that donates shoes to those in need. In the past, they have donated 100 pairs to Haven For Hope, followed by 200 pairs to Boerne ISD. Patton, along with his brother Jude and friend Tre Hudspeth, collect the shoes from donation boxes, thoroughly cleaned and packaged them, and then labeled them by brand and size. Although Patton is a freshman at Baylor, he continues to help his brother and encourages anyone cleaning out after the holidays to consider their charity to help those in need of shoes. 

 

The new Fabra Elementary Principal got into the Christmas Spirit before schools let out last Friday. Dawning a bright red suit and red cap, he climbed up atop the school and became an Elf on the Shelf…err roof. Principal Troy Latoilais greeted students and parents before the school day began, surrounded by other staff dressed to the nines in their best elf costumes.
