Headlines:  39th President Jimmy Carter Dies at 100 / Jonathan Swarek runs unopposed in Fair Oaks Ranch / Xmas Tree Pick Up Plan

It’s Monday December 30th.

And born on the same date are two guys from the same band…The Monkees.

Michael Nesmith was born in 1942 - and Davy Jones was born in 1945.  In 1964, Davy Jones was part of the cast of Oliver and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show the same night as the Beatles first appearance.  Michael Nesmith was born in Houston but has a San Antonio connection in that he went through Lackland and stayed in San Antonio after his discharge.  He went to San Antonio College and even won the SAC Talent Award singing folk songs.

Former President Jimmy Carter passed away yesterday afternoon in his home in Plains, Georgia. He was 100 years old. Although he only served one term as President, he was known for the peace treaty between Isreal and Egypt, and the Iran Hostage Crisis. Post-presidency, Carter did philanthropic work at the Carter Center in Atlanta, and most known for his work with Habitat for Humanity, he was awarded a Nobel Prize and the United National Human Rights Prize, plus earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bill Clinton.  He holds the record as the longest living President at 100.2 years - George H.W. Bush was 94.5, Gerald Ford was 93.5, and Ronald Reagan was 93.3.   Interestingly the next President on the list was John Adams at 90.7.  Joe Biden is #10 on the list at 82.1 and ahead of him are Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Harry Truman, and Herbert Hoover.

Fair Oaks Ranch has canceled their 2025 special election after only one candidate filed to fill the lone seat. Councilman-to-be Jonathan Swarek will be taking over for Chesley Muenchow, who stepped down in early November after serving since 2023. Swarek will assume office on March 6th. Fair Oaks Ranch will have their regularly scheduled election on May 3rd.

With the holiday season ending, Boerne Utilities has a few ways to get rid of your beloved Christmas trees. The first collection period will take place one week from today thru the 10th by crews from the City’s Streets Department. This collection is only for residents within the city limits of Boerne, and you must call the Customer Care and Billing office before this Friday to be added to the schedule - here’s the number: (830) 249-9511.  Otherwise, you can wait for bulky and brush pick up on the 2nd week of the month on your trash day!
