Deputy Fire Marshall Juan Cardona

It’s Wednesday August 6th.

And in the spirit of I Love Boerne - I Love Lucy creator Lucielle Ball was born on this date in 1911 - 114 years ago.  Ball became the first woman to run a major television studio whose productions included I Love Lucy, Mission Impossible, The Untouchables, and Star Trek.

I Love Lucy has been translated into dozens of languages in 78 countries, and hasn’t left television since it first debuted in 1951.

Ding-Dong the burn ban is dead! Kendall County Emergency Management officials lifted the ban yesterday morning in areas away from the Guadalupe River and flood-affected areas. This is the first time since July 8th that burning has been allowed in the county and will allow for the disposal of branches and brush, as well as other plant growth by property owners. Before you burn, make sure you are still following the laws regarding wind speed, temperature and always have a water source nearby.

And school starts next week, but officers at the Boerne Police Department have been preparing for the start of classes all summer. Nine school resource officers have been undergoing hours of additional training to prepare themselves to respond to emergency situations. Last year, Boerne SROs responded to 489 calls for service, an 11 percent increase from the previous school year. Beyond emergencies, these officers will serve as mentors and positive influences for the kids they interact with, from giving high fives to advice to kids who need it.

Congratulations to Deputy Fire Marshall Juan Cardona for celebrating his one-year anniversary with the Kendall County Fire Marshall’s Office. He serves as the Fire Code Official, overseeing fire code application and enforcement, and acts as the Plans Examiner and as a Fire Investigator. During the recent floods, he stepped up without hesitation to serve the community…thanks for your service and commitment to Kendall County Officer Cardona!
