It’s Monday August 4th. 

And a few famous folks were born on this date…the Queen Mother Elizabeth was born in 1900..died in 2002.  The late great Louis Armstrong was born in 1901. And the 44th President of United States Barack Obama was born in 1961 - he turns 64 today.

Lightning struck some rough terrain in Pipe Creek on Saturday night, leading to a wildfire that is 70% contained today. The Boerne Fire Department and Fire Marshall worked on Saturday and all-day Sunday to assist the Pipe Creek Volunteer Fire Department in their fight.  Again, all hands on deck to help - thanks to all the crews including Bergheim, Sisterdale, Waring, Castle Lake and Bexar County. 

The school year is about to begin a week from tomorrow for Boerne ISD…and the Boerne Police Department has a few reminders.  For the drivers out there, make sure to be extra cautious in school zones and stay off your phone - you should be doing that anyway.  Be conscious of kids at crosswalks.  If you’re doing back to school shopping, keep those purchases out of sight, and your car locked.   Traffic of course will pick up so give yourself extra time to travel especially in the usual places including Esser, Herff, and River Road, be patient and kind.  

Football practice starts today for Champion and Boerne High…and how’s this for cool…Band Camp started last week and on Friday, the Boerne Fire Department showed up at Boerne High School and made it rain to keep them cool. 

The Boerne Chamber of Commerce has 2 ribbon-cuttings this week and they are both tomorrow. Starting at 11:30, the Chamber will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Hill Country Pet Ranch. Later at 1:30, Titan Tint and Wraps will be celebrated at their location on Market Ave.
