UPS CEO Carol Tomé Talks High Fuel Costs & Holiday Season Outlook

In an exclusive interview from UPS headquarters in Atlanta, Carol Tomé told Bloomberg's Romaine Bostick that UPS reported solid third-quarter results, including a return to volume growth among U.S. small-business and enterprise customers, and raised its full-year revenue and profit guidance.  Based on customer forecasts, the company expects average daily volume to rise about 25% from the third quarter to the fourth during the holiday peak. Looking to 2027, Tomé expects package volume and revenue per piece to grow, while cost per piece rises more slowly, supporting profit and margin expansion. She said higher fuel and purchased-transportation costs drove all of the recent cost-per-piece increase, while about half of revenue-per-piece growth came from fuel surcharges and half from base rates and mix.
