US Bombs Iran Targets, Growing AI Job Fears, Israel’s Economic Strain

(1) US and Israeli jets struck Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and other targets, hours after President Donald Trump had suggested negotiations with Tehran over an interim deal were progressing.

(2) Israel will intensify its strikes against Hezbollah, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday, amid stepped-up negotiations between the US and Iran to bring an end to the conflict in the region.

(3) Bloomberg Economics has found that find that 27% of workers in advanced economies — more than 120 million in the 31 countries  — are likely to be meaningfully affected by AI. That's as Pope Leo XIV said artificial intelligence should be “disarmed” to protect humanity from its dangers.

(4) Ebola is spreading faster in Democratic Republic of Congo than responders can contain it, the World Health Organization warned, as suspected deaths climbed above 220 and treatment centers came under attack in the country’s conflict-hit east.

(5) The first heat wave of the season continues to scorch Europe over the coming week, sending temperatures toward monthly records in the UK, France and Spain.

(6) Israel's economy slumped in the first quarter of the year due to the fallout of the war with Iran. The country has been in a near constant state of conflict over the past 2 years. It is seeing a brain drain, falling foreign direct investment and ballooning defense budgets -- all as Israel prepares to hold elections by October.
