Astika Rishi was the wise son of the sage Jaratkaru and the serpent princess Manasa, making him part human and part naga by lineage. He is celebrated for stopping King Janamejaya’s snake sacrifice (Sarpa Satra), thereby saving the serpent race from extinction through his wisdom and compassion.
