Belly Podcast - 3 February 2026. Guests: Ruth Winton-Brown, Deb Jorgensen & Sally Cussack.

On March 7th, 2026, a film titled Revealed: KillJoywill be screened at the Star Court Theatre, Lismore offering a unique view of family violence in Australia.

The film tells of a Lismore mother’s death, a community's silence and a child’s journey to uncover the truth. Kathryn Joy was three months old when their father killed their mother. He served just 22 months and by age four, Kathryn was back living with him in the house he killed their mother in, with little knowledge of what happened to her.

Spanning over forty years, Revealed: KillJoy follows Kathryn from a child, into adulthood as they embark on a journey to uncover their mother’s buried story.

My first guest on Belly this morning is Rose Hogan pictured (courtesy of Human of Lismore) who arrived in the Lismore region around the same time this horrific event had taken place. Rose has a background in community services and social work and has dedicated much of her life towards the change we’d all like to see in domestic violence against women.

Rose has agreed to give her account of how she saw the event unfold all those years ago and we’ll talk about what's changed since then, if anything, as well as information on the film for anyone wanting to see it on March 7th at the Star Court Theatre in Lismore.

My second guest on the show is Tim Franklin from the Film Actors Studioin Byron. Tim is an Australian actor known for his role as Colby Thorne in the soap opera Home and Away.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Acting) from the University of Technology of Queensland (QUT) in 2010. and prior to Home and Away worked as an online content creator for MTV and appeared in short films and independent theatre productions. He has also been involved in a number of recent projects, including the comedy drama: iAm and the crime drama: The Last King of the Cross.

Tim lives in the Shire and runs film acting workshops for all ages, offering the opportunity to satiate your curiosity in film making and acting OR attend actors 'workout sessions' to stay connected to the industry and hone your skills.  

Above all though he offers a place for people to be seen, be heard and be vulnerable. All the things that push our buttons and make us react in an uncomfortable way, the perfect breeding ground for growth and personal expansion.

From two polar opposites in terms of involvement in Bay FM we’re going to be hearing from newest recruit to the airwaves Bella who completed the Bay FM Radio Broadcast Course last year.

Bella has been filling in as well as presenting her own show Beans for the last few months andyou'll hear some snippets from her final show, which she shared with her dad Dominic.

On the opposite end of the scale, we’ll be welcoming Gayle Cue (pictured) into the studios who was present in the very conception of the idea of creating a community radio station in Byron Bay. Gayle has recently returned to Bay FM as a front desk vollie and enrolled in the upcoming Radio Broadcast Course to brush up on some skills and possibly learn a few new ones.

You’ll also be hearing a positive ageing story from 97-year-old Russian born pocket rocket Nina Marzi. It's the story of how a small handmade wooden box centuries old came into her life in the early 70's. Nina awoke one day and embarked on a spirited mission she had no control over. You'll hear her recollect the story in a way only Nina could!

Could it be a calling, intuition, a spirit guide, a co-incidence? Call it what you may but listen first before you decide.
