It’s rare for me to dedicate an entire show to one particular topic but this is a stunning exception.
Sunday was the day the doors opened to Byron’s newest NFP community creative hub! A place to reinstate our elders as our wisdom keepers through the sharing of their story, song, and skills, rethreading our intergenerational connections.
At Our Timeless Threads, they believe everyone deserves to age with dignity, autonomy, and a strong sense of identity. A non-profit founded by Maia Willow, a registered nurse passionate about elder care, they create joyful, meaningful experiences—from hat-decorating parties and 1920s speakeasy celebrations to personalised high-tea care planning and in-home shopping—that nurture independence, wellbeing, and lasting connection.
I went along to the opening on Sunday afternoon, with my dog and my mic spending a gorgeous afternoon bathed in sunshine, heartfelt warmth, good conversation and a sense of being in the right place at the right time.
Through my own work championing the stories of wise older women through the CBF grant funded project WOW: Wise Older Women, which aims to change the common perceptions of ageing, and address the invisibility that often occurs when older people, particularly women, reach a certain age. Needless to say, Our Timeless Threads community hub is a place filled with ideas and people dear to my heart.
On the show today you’ll meet some of the colourful and creative people at the launch, sharing their words of wonder, hearts of gold and stories that will entertain, enlighten and inspire you to dress up, get up and move amongst the changemakers and visionaries, who see another way to walk, talk and view our priceless ageing wisdom keepers who live amongst us.
To complete this journey through time and space there'll be a generous seasoning of musical flavours from the past. So come on, jump on the bus, take your seat and let's go for an audio adventure to the Byron Arts and Industry Estate, 18 Acacia St where it's all happening!
