What is NAD+?

View descriptionShare

In this 117th episode of Sober Head Podcast, Dr. Esra Çavuşoğlu, PhD speaks with Harvard and Yale-trained physician-scientist Dr. Andrew Salzman about NAD, NMN, CD38, mitochondrial health, brain energy, and healthy aging.

Dr. Andrew Salzman is a physician, inventor, and biomedical entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in drug discovery, biotechnology, oncology, autoimmune diseases, and cellular therapies, and is an alumnus of Harvard Medical School, Yale University, and Columbia University. With over 170 scientific publications and more than 60 patents, he currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at Wonderfeel Biosciences, focusing on cellular health and healthy aging.

Dr. Salzman explains what NAD does inside the cell, why it is essential for energy production, DNA repair, metabolism, inflammation control, and brain function, and why NAD levels may decline with age.

The episode also explores why CD38 acts like a “drain” that breaks down NAD, why inflammation may accelerate NAD loss, whether NAD IVs really work, how NMN and NR differ, and what people should understand before taking NAD supplements. They also discuss the controversial question of NAD and cancer, why people with cancer should be cautious with supplements, and why creatine may be important not only for muscles but also for brain health and aging.
